Exclamation command upgrade

Hi,

I own a 2003 s500 and I want to upgrade my existing cd unit to a command unit.
Would it be necessary to replace the wood trim around it?
If yes, where can i buy it?

Thanks,

Sure. Seem the picture shows the new mini comand then.

@zilpac.

I assume you have a 16:9 Comand installed.
Bad news is that there was a set of Headunits with no navigation feature.
Only by knowing the part# of your comand the question can be answered.

Cheers, Frank

Well, sometimes its healthy to look above the own plate.
(Yes there is a world outside the US)

Left or right hand drive, it does not matter. Comand, or more precise navigation was always an option.
Easily recognizeable by looking at the passenger door and checking the option codes. ;-).
But I agree in one point, since the US got mostly stock production and not individual manufacturing like in Europe, the US "standard" model was already equipped with a lot of options.

Cheers from the outer wourld,

Frank

You sure that's a 2003? In 03 MB went with the soft touch buttons but those on your car appear to be from the 00-02 era. If you have the 02 era, you will pay deerly for command upgrade. You have fibre optics that need to be run plus cost of comand plus tele aid plus telematics plus tv tuner plus voice control modules and we cant forget labor. You'll be better off buying a 2005-06 for the cost to upgrade. And yes, you need new wood trim pieces.

my 2003 s430 does not have the "soft touch" buttons you speak of...
I assume by soft touch you are referring to the buttons to the immediate left and right of the screen.

The "soft buttons" (named because the software gives them different meanings depending on what COMAND application you're in) came with the the DVD upgrade in '04. The '04 COMAND is much improved over '03, but cannot be retrofit without a great deal of expense. This is because the D2B bus was replaced with MOST, so lots of parts changed.

I have the same problem. I am now looking into upgrading my 2000 euro S Class to a 2003 cd based widescreen Comand instead of a 2004 and on dvd based comand. The cost is much less, now i need to find a cd based widescreen comand.
