Problems with COMAND in 2000 S320

I have a Mercedes S 320 from 2000. It's fitted with the blaupunkt comand 2.5 (http://www.whnet.com/4x4/pix/2000_COMAND_APS.jpg).

My problem is that I can't change the language in the system, it's in german, and the option where I should be able to change the language, is grey and can not be marked.

The second thing is that the navigation dosen't work. When I press the navigation button, it just stand there with a message that it's activating, but nothing happens. I have a German NAVI cd, but when I put it in the front unit cd-drive, nothing happens.

Furthermore I don't have any cd-changer (I think, can't find it in the trunk). There is a cd input in the front unit, but when I put a cd in there, nothing happens!? Ive tried all sorts of cds, but no response.

At last I would like to ask if anyone knows if it's possible to fit the widescreen navigation in the S-class from 2000 (http://www.whnet.com/4x4/pix/2003_COMAND_APS.jpg)? Have read some threads on it, but couldn't find a solution.

All help is much appreciated.

Do you have a user manual for comand? If so you will know that the cd slot is for Nav CD's ONLY. Any other disk will not work there for your model. You need to purchase from MB a cd changer that goes in the trunk and is operated through comand. Make sure you use nav cd's that are compartible with your system. As far as changing the language, have you tried changing that through your instrument cluster? Try that first.

Kenstudios is right on each point - get a copy of your COMAND manual and read it (you can download an electronic version at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_manual.htm ). In addition to the COMAND manual itself, there is a good source of information on COMAND systems at http://www.mercupgrades.com/comand/faq.shtml . If you already have a manual but haven't read it, you will get much more cooperation on the forums if your read it first, then ask questions.

You do not provided adequate information on your car - but since the S320 wasn't introduced to the U.S. market until well after the '00 model year, and because your COMAND language is set for German and you had a nav CD for Germany, I am guessing that you have a Euro spec COMAND. If so, the manuals on Paul Dick's website to which I provided a link may not be entirely accurate; but between those and the FAQ link I provided (which discusses differences in U.S. and Euro spec COMANDs), you should be able to get a start until you can obtain the printed manual from a dealer.

Not all nav CDs will work in all CD-based COMANDs. See discussion at https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ghlight=Skylaw The link will let you determine what type of nav system you have (C or D) and therefore what kind of CDs you need. The D nav uses DX encoded discs; the C nav does not.

Updating the MY 2000 4:3 screen COMAND to the '03 facelift 16:9 (widescreen) version has been discussed several times on MB World and BenzWorld. For one such discussion, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...+screen+COMAND .

Steve@MBENZNL.com would be able to answer further questions you may have concerning a wide screen upgrade.

As to the CD changer, Paul Dick's website also contains the phone bulletins for various years and models at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit..._bulletins.htm . Once again, I cannot tell if they are specifically for your car, since they are for U.S. versions - but they may give you a start. They contain photos and installation instructions for the telematics installations in the trunk (VCM, phone equipment, and CD changer); however, you may have to consult a dealer for part numbers, especially if you have a Euro spec setup.
