compass/navigation

I have an 02' S500 with navigation as they all do , but I was wondering if this car has just a compass to show which way i'm going rather than switching the navigation on? I know most cars show this on there rearview mirror.
thanks.

What are you talking about? Is there a Nav CD in the slot? Do you have a manual to show you how to use command? With the map CD in the slot, the Nav is always ready and waiting for your input.

I don't think my 2001 had it so I don't know when it was added, but on my 2006 the cluster display shows compass heading when you're not under route guidance. I think what got added at some point was the multi-function mode for nav. When you're under route guidance it shows you the next turn and distance to go, when you're not it shows you the heading. In both cases it shows you the street you're on. This might have been part of the 2004 facelift.

My '03 S500 shows Heading/Street Name on the cluster when there is no guidance, with a programmed route it shows next street and where to turn.

The COMAND instruction manual for the '02 does not have any indication that heading is displayed as a readout anywhere; it only discusses "compass" and "heading" in terms of orientation of the map display and the direction of the needle symbol associated with that. See http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_manual.htm for the manual.

As I recall, my '00 S500, which had the same COMAND 2.5 as the '02, did not display a heading readout either on the COMAND or the multifunction display.

Please see my previous post. This will show you what street you are on, it'll give you the sat, Lat & Longitude and the compass if you must have it.
