Question High Frequancy Vibration

Hi all I just got my 2002 S430 with 12500 miles. I have just noticed after 3 weeks and 1000 miles that there is a high frequancy vibration that can be felt through the stick shift, gas pedal and the left foot rest from idol to about 2100 rpms, if I get on it and run up in the high 2000rpm's and above this vibration goes away. It also goes away when the car is in neutral or park. This vibration only happans in gear and when running at the above stated RPM's. Is this normal. I might just be noticing it because the car is so quite and runs so smooth.

Thanks for any input.

Sounds like the engine mounts. They are a very popular item on S-classes, and failures cause those symptoms. It could also be the harmonic balancer, but when it goes the vibration is usually less subtle and over a wider range of RPMs.

Car at the dealership all day today under CPO warranty. They agreed that its not normal and they can't figure out whats causing it. Picked up car for the weakend, going back on Monday, I will mention the flex discs. They state that they cheked all the mounts and the harmonic balancer and they all look brand new since its only got 12500 miles on it for a 02.

I will keep everyone updated as this continues on next week.

Well the car went back to thedealer for another full day. Got the car back and all is fixed now. It was the engine mounts. Covered under the CPO warranty.

My new question is do they need to touch the front suspecion to get to the motor mounts. My car now pulls to the left all of a sudden this morning. If I let go of the wheel it changes lanes drasticly. I didnt hit anything and when I drove home last night it was fine. It feels like something just went out of wack oon its own. I know its tight in the engine compartment, don't know if the tie rods are in the way to get to the motor mounts.

Thanks

I don't want to jeopardize my batting 1000, so I won't make a specific diagnosis , but take it back. There are a lot of things it could be and none of them are things you want to drive around with. Minor problems with Airmatic, for instance, can manifest themselves with pulling as the steering geometry changes but can quickly turn into major problems with your car slamming onto the tires at highway speed.

Welcome the wonderful wacky world of the S-class.
