Mileage doesn't correspond to B Service Interval - Why?

Hello All,

I searched the forum but was unable to find a solution to my concern:

I bought an '01 S55 in August with 72,000 miles on it. When I bought it, the display read "B Service in 8,800 miles". I don't know when the last oil change or service was performed.

The car now has 80,000 miles on it. The display now reads, "B Service in 4,400 miles".

I know that the service interval is somewhat dependent upon oil quality, but I'm surprised it would be THAT far off. Can something be wrong with the sensor that monitors service intervals? I've never added oil to the car and it tells me the oil level is fine.

I called my dealer and he was a little worried, too. I told him to just do the B service an reset the intervals - that way we'll know it's done and we don't have to worry about it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Craig
