Going to get my S500 tinted soon - quick questions
Do you guys maybe have some pictures of tinted S class you could share with me along with the tint specs?
I can't remember much about the good brands and whatnot. But the place I am considering bringing my vehicle to uses "SunTek" window films. Anything to say about the brand?
Is there anything I need to be careful about concerning getting the vehicle that I have tinted ('06 S500)?
I was thinking about doing 15% non metallic tint all around. I am just trying to figure out how dark that will be though. My previous vehicle had "limo" tint on it, and it was quite dark...took time to get used to but boy did I love it after awhile!
Thanks guys--

Llumar is great window tint. http://www.llumar.com/
I think most tinting places will carry this type as part of their better tints.
I think the darkness is really preference. In my opinion, 35% looks the best. Its dark enough to make the car look great without having a complete black look. I think limo black tints make the car look a bit tacky, but thats me. I'll try to take some pics and post them here.
At night it gets pretty black, but in the day you will be visible from other drivers.

A couple of quick pointers for you.
1.These cars have a plastic wedge inside the door frame that scratches tint and you will need to cover that plaistic with felt or sheep skin. It's pretty involving process but to avoid going back to redo the tint, it's worth the effort.
2. When they do the tint, make sure the dry with a heat gun as they go. Reason being, the window regulator is situated in the path of the soapy water they use and when that gets wet, it shorts out and gives you a few electrical problems.
3. Most tints have a metallic base that will affect the reception on your radio. The radio antenna is embeded in the rear window and if you use a metallic base tint, the reception gets a lot of interferance.
4. Percentage wise, it's all up to you to decide. Most go for 35% or 20%. 15 and 5 are just a little too dark and are not legal in many states. Check your state DMV dept. for allowable tint. http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/
5. Type of tint is upto you. Llumar is good, 3M is better and Huper Optik Window Films are the best. Thats up to your pocket book.

What's the process of adding felt or sheep skin?

The scratching gets worse as the window rolls down/up. Within a year it can look really bad. The process involves removing the door panels which can get challenging depending on your DIY skill level. Go to a reputable tint shop that is familliar with these cars and they will do it for you.

I have 20% and I love it. I like it dark enough so no one can see me.

Scratching
Didn't know about this. I had mine tinted about 2 months ago and have no signs of scratching. The shop didn't mention it either. For the record, I have an '03.

Get your inside tracks covered in felt. This prevents all scratching. Any good tint guy will know what you're talking about when you mention this. This procedure adds about 50 dollars for the whole tint cost.

I have 5% all around and Light on my windshield.
I have thought about going darker, but feel it's perfect right now.
