Prices are all over the place
I am looking at an '03 S500 with 80K miles on it for $29,995 at a local reseller lot.
The internet price collected from several sources and averaged (Ebay, Carmax, etc..) is $27k for an '03 with 45K on it.
Should I expect the internet price to be so much better for a lower mileage car V/S a local non internet car? Since anyone with a computer can buy the car at this price, it seems to make it the going rate, but then there are several who do not internet shop.
What do you think the average for an '03 with 80k on it should be? The car is black on black with nav, etc.... seems fully loaded.

Several factors will affect price - not only the condition of the car, included options, and the like - but location (local demand), and whether any warranty is included. An MB Certified Preowned (CPO - new name for the old Starmark warranty program) car would command a higher price than one with no such warranty.

Regarding a w220... each car has to be evaluated very carefully regarding value.

Over here, in UK, price can vary but £3-5k or by $6,000 to $10,000 dollars, depending on the condition the car is in, the service record and the quantity of dents, scratches stone chips and general signs of wear and tear.
Stuff on the internet could be any mileage (clocked) and usually has not been checked over nor does it come with a guarantee. Better quality examples usually end up with dealers (they like nice clean, well looked after cars in good nick as easier to sell and less come-backs with complaints). If you cannot get a dealer to buy it is private sale or internet.
I would never risk buying off the internet -read far too many horror cases. Safest is to buy a car with Full MBSH, from a good dealer, with a good reputation and a good warranty.
Good luck.

Check Ebay for the non reserve auction, some guys acutually dont put up a reserve and the car goes for extremly low. Im talking about 14-15k USD for S500 00' 01' with like 75-85k miles on it.
