I have seen numerous discussions on comparing models so there's no stupid questions. 
As far as I know the S600 has 5.5 V12 with 362HP if I am not mistaken. S55 will be my choice IMO, 5.5 V8 AMG Package with 355-360HP, gas mileage somewhere 18 - 23hwy. Two different vehicle with almost same HP.

If you go to www.mbusa.com and click on Certified Pre-Owned in the upper left, then pull down Model Overview and select the year, then pull down the year (yeah, you just selected it but the interface sucks) and select S-Class, then on the left select each model in turn and explore all the features, equipment, performance, etc. in gruesome detail. It's kind of cool: all the marketing material for all cars going back to 2001.
