Mugsy, Benznobubz is right on point with this (as usual). That is exactly what needs to be done. Its not a big deal -- easy to do -- so dont stress

I took a look at my wheelwel and did not see the piece of metal that you guys are talking about. I also took my car to a body shop and they said that the fender is rolled pretty tight and that bending it more can damage the paint. I dont know what to do now.
Oh ya my whole instrument cluster shutdown today. Anyone know why this would happen? I seen their might be a recall for the lighting of the cluster but my WHOLE Instrument cluster shutdown like it froze and now lighting at all and I can controll my volume from the steering wheel. Man this has been a bad week for me! Need help!

jeeez!
why anyone would drive with 30's is beyond me, slow down at every curb or bump. i had a geo metro for years, had 195/50-15's and would drive around pussies who would brake at the slightest imperfection, annoying as hell, i had 50's on a 1900lb metro, i got 60's on my 3000lb 190E. be sensible, add 4psi when driving over 100mph!!!

There is a plastic cover that shields your inner fender well that will touch your tires and you can hear it in the cabin and it soulds like a rub. But, it's just that you wheels are sitting too far on the inside by a few mm. the only cure for this is to use a 3 or 4mm spacer(which I hate..), or get wheels with a realistic offset. 20X 10, will tuck nicely just like 19's but you MUST have the correct offset in order to do this. Fender rolling is for wheels that stick out too much on the outside and barely tuck.
I know this t be tru because I have the EXACT issue ( if you want to call it that ) with the 19X9.5's I have on my car running Bridgestone RFT's. So I have investigated this to the end.
OFFSET. on a 20X10 should be no more than 42. THEN you really have to watch the kind of tire you use. Rounded like Toyo's work in tight squeezes, but if you go with a bridgestone or some other square(er) brand, you will see the difference.

mugsy415,
If you read a little more closely on the instrument cluster recall, you'll see that the warranty on instrument clusters for the S-Class was extended to 10 years from initial date the car went into service. The recall only affected clusters for certain VINs, and for the lighting malfunction.
The warranty is not limited as to defects covered, and it covers all W220 S-Class (I believe the CL was affected as well). Take it to an authorized dealer.

Your problem is something that no one has talked about yet. The Offset of the rear wheels is not correct for your car/tire set-up. Thee are many people running 20X10, on the S and have no issues.BUT you MUST watch your offset with a 10" wheel otherwise you will rub. And you ae correct, it's on the inside of the outer part.

This is exactly what I said the problem was. hello ?... I had a 37 offset 20x10 and had it working fine... you need to grind that piece down... plan A get on the phone and call some wheel shops t'll you find one that knows about this piece of metal and throw the toyo t 1r's on and you will be a happy camper.. the piece of metal is in the upper corner of the outside rear well ( the part that is *** rubbin your tire) it is not hard to see if you have the wheel off ? plan B you can easily do this yourself or go to plan A. best of luck !
ps. your offset is perfect

Another thing you can do is just LET it rub. Yes, let your tires rub the metal piece and eventually the metal will rub off. You might wanna run some cheaper tires for a few months just to do that.

LOL, we're not talking sandpaper. You something to physically cut off a piece of metal.

That helps a lot thanks. But I think there might be a chance that the wheel will still touches the from the bottom of the off the fender and not the inner spot. But now I have a better idea of what needs to be done and actually what it looks like I can show it to a few shops.
BUt I gotta wait until my instrument cluster get repaired from the dealer. Thankfully my car was under the recall vins!

I read a post about how the dealer had to add miles by letting the cluster run at 140mph to set the odometer. Thats funny because the dealer told me and it was true that the computer stores all the info from the cluster including miles so I think they were just stalling with him I guess
