The '07 E-Class didn't do that much better than the 5 series. Results for the '07 w211 were actually worse than the '06 w211.

-For a large, expensive Mercedes, this is somewhat un-acceptable. It placed much lower than the A6, GS, M35/45, ES350, and TL. The base Chevrolet Malibu, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, VW Rabbit, Subaru Impreza and Honda Civic did BETTER. It was on-par with the Chevrolet Cobalt.
Pretty embarassing for Mercedes. And they actually tried to improve side-impact performance for 2007...

Just to think that I have considered buying a BMW 5-series (and actually still do) but in a station car model
My next dream will be a fully loaded E-class station.
B.T.W. beamers do NOT SUCK
I have a nice 328 convertible as well and it gives me driving pleasure better than my big Benz.
It is used in sunny weather, relaxed moments etc.. It was not designed for banger races, but then again, which convertible is? And the neighborhood women smile more to me when I drive it than with my Benz

I dont' know what your talking about man. I get more looks and RESPECT when I drive my 2001 S430 than whenver I drive my father in laws 2007 Bmw 750IL. I dont' know if it's because of my wheels and what nots and his beamer is completely factory but I rather drive my benz to south beach than his beamer!

that just opposite over here.
My S320 is nice to drive and it forces some respect because of its size and mass (I live in Europe). The star also bring some with it.
But looks, especially from the people I would like to look (and look smiling) I get certainly driving my bmw convertible.
But to be honest, I did not by one car for looks or respect.
The Benz is for comfort and distance.
The BMW is for fun (sun and scaring off pimped (japanese) cars)
The VW is for my wife and for hauling big stuff (it is a station model)

I didnt buy the car for respect. But it comes with the car is all I'm saying. I live in the Miami area it's all about the big body Benzo's over here

I don't think bimmers suck. I had a E38 740iL, sold it almost 2 months ago and miss it a lot. Don't get me wrong, I love Mercedes too, but I think it's a softer ride and I don't like the fact that the steering is light (atleast compared to my bmw.)
My parents have an 03 S430, I like the car a lot. VERY smooth ride btw.
Between the S430 and the 740iL, I think I got equal attention, but in the 740, I always got thumbs up from enthusiasts.

one thing with bmw that mercedes doesnt have is that when you just drive a bmw it keeps asking for you to floor it and just basically abuse it because it can handle anything you throw at it. its a solid car its really a great drive . iv takin beamers 110+ and it just feels solid it just like whatever abuse you can do to it it keeps asking for more.. unlike a bmw if you tear the crap out of a mercedes it will start to break down very quickly... my all time favority bmw is 530i(v6) or 540i(v8) 2001 to 2003 models i dont like the new 04+design. and also in a bmw you can feel the grip on the road

Bimmers and Benzos are the cream of the crop period.
ps. I would take a 750LI over an S430 or S500 in a heartbeat.... + cough up some cash.

Both are cream of the crop but the Benz will always be the tip of the iceberg! MB will always be above Beamers. Dont get me wrong I like beamers too but MB is and always be above them!
