autofold mirrors on an 02'
I have an 02' S500 my outside mirrors always folded in when exiting the car and locking it with the key/remote. this winter they stopped folding in for some strange reason brought my car to the dealer and everyone there insisted that on this year car this was not a feature! I told them I'm not crazy and not leaving until they get fixed. Sure enough the service manager came and set the car on the computer and said my car was missing the "convenience" feature on the dash (which I never had) with this option sure enough after about a half hour he added the feature which says aoutofold option and seat steering option and they are again folding in when I lock my car. So I think all 220's have this feature it just has to be programmed by your dealer. insist that they once folded in and they will add the autofold feature in. and to top it off they never charged me!

sounds good, but all i ever hear at my dealer is "no, we won't/can't do that", "no, that part is not available", and "your bill is at the reception desk".
seriously though, i thought the pre-2003 cars couldn't do it?

Is there a way to turn off the autofold feature? My 04 does this evertime and I am waiting for the day that the little motor fails

You will still be able to fold them using the buttons on the door.

kyles, fusion - I believe your responses are confirming that it is the '02 model that requires the feature to be activated with STAR diagnostics. After activation it should function in accordance with the menu.
I don't know why it was done that way - some have speculated in the past that it was a programming oversight by Mercedes, especially because it was a feature included in earlier (and in subsequent) model years.
Again, I am relying on recall of a number of posts complaining about the problem from several years ago.

I received a recall notice a few months back that the inst cluser could be bad and it may need to be replaced. I took that to mean that i dont need to take it unless the cluster goes bad, but maybe I should go ahead and take it in to have them check it out?

if you had a notice it will not cost you anything.

Self test to figure out if your car is capable of this feature (pre 02's). If your mirrors requires you to hold the fold button as it folds, they will not be able to activate that feature even if you get a new cluster with the convenience setting on it. If your mirror can be folded just by pressing and letting go of the button then you may be able to get this feature activated.
