A/C problem at 31K miles!!

We have noticed over the last few weeks that our A/C blows hot air for the first 5 minutes on initial start up. I took it to the dealer for a check and after a full day of trouble shooting they found the problem. There was a leak on the suction side of the refrigerant loop. The leak was in a hose buried in the dash down stream of the evaporator. They had to replace the hose, dryer and recharge the system. Does anyone have a clue as to why a failure like this shows up on a 3 1/2 year old car with 31K miles?! All is well now...thank God for the warranty. Between now and 2/08 I am getting an extended warranty or trading/selling this car. To own a S Class with out a warranty is commiting financial suicide!!

I have owned over 20 different vehicles over the last 35 years but this car stands alone as the one that has been in the shop more than any of the others.
Why is that? I really love this car but I'm beginning to think that these cars might be too fragile for normal use.

I asked my service advisor what the charge would have been w/o warranty...about $1500~$1750...no big deal.
