OLD: 2004 C230 Sport Sedan, NEW: 2007 SLK350
HELP: 2000 S430 with VIN in VA
Hi all,
I found this listing on Craigslist:
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...492081870.html
Mileage: 114,419
Body Style: Sedan
Exterior Color: Mist
Interior Color: Gray
Stock #: 1201
VIN: WDBNG70J4YA088901
Engine: 8 Cylinders
Transmission: Automatic
Drive Train: RWD
Doors: 4
The real grill was replaced with an ugly grill with a giant logo... do you think it had an accident?
I checked KBB.com for the retail value of a 2000 S430, and it's $19.5k for a "Excellent" condition S430 from 2000. So this guy on Craiglist has priced his at $17k after a $500 reduction, so that seems to be a normal depreciated value.
Also, the year 2000 model of the S-Class was the first introduction of this design. Plus, I'll be stuck with an outdated model because of the 2007 S-class is so darn cool.
Buy now or stay away?

Some people replace the OE grille with aftermarket grilles for what they consider to be a "sportier" look. MB sedans typically have the raised hood ornament, while the sportier versions have the grille star. Whether the prior owner of this car did so as a result of an accident is impossible to say without looking at the car closely.
You may find the string at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...-look-out.html interesting regarding the rest of your question.

(yep, I am familiar with the logo placement in front of the car, as I have purchased 2 new Benzes, a 2004 C230K sport sedan, and a 2007 SLK350. )
Accident or no accident, having a giant ugly logo below the regular hood ornament just looks tacky.
I think I'd rather get an 07 S550 sometime next year....

Either way, I think its a nice car and a good price, but I could tell by your original post that you already had your heart set on something else so you should follow it otherwise every little teenie weenie issue you have with this car ( and you should expect some), it will be a major ordeal because this is not what you had your heart set on in the first place.
The new body style S is nice, but I'm still on the fence about the look of it. Especially since
1.The new C class looks just like it and
2. I already own an S.
I think I'm going for the adrenaline rush next time. a sported out newstyle C, or an SL.... My W220 aint going nowhere soon.

02 S500 Sport
115k Miles is too much
Also S430 go for like 15-17.(80-100k Miles)
Last few weeks i seen S500's going for 17k(Regualr ones)
The sports are like 3-4k more.
I can get you a free carfax if you want.

wow...you guys are so lucky up there...i just paid $NZ40k for my 2000 S430 (only 50k miles on odo thou)! a 2000-01 S500 would go easily for $NZ50k (~$US40) here in New Zealand. maybe i should have imported one from US? ... only if i could drive a left hand drive car on the left side of the road!!! lol

no, not really.. the new C sport has a logo that was made for it.
The reason this S430's grill logo is "ugly" is because, it looks out of place, and there's still a logo sitting pretty on top of the hood!
sure, I'd appreciate it!
