Has anyone had this grinding noise from the air suspension motor when you raise or lower the car? The car seems to raise and lower though but sounds like a Air Compressor. Anyone know what could be wrong? Car is out of factory warranty (2002 S500)so seeing what could be wrong before bringing it into the shop. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Is your car level? Does the pump continue to run and run or just a grinding noise until it stops?

The car seems to be level and the grinding noise does stop after it reaches the top or back down but before this noise....I remember last night pressing the raise button and on the display the "Vehicle Rising" stayed on until I turned off the engine and turned it back on. When the Vehicle Rising display stayed on....I remembered no noise. It was after I turned the engine off and back on is when I hear that grinding/air compressor like noise whenever it goes up or back down. Possibly the pump going bad?Originally Posted by srknutson

This morning when I tried it was still making that grinding noise but I was about to stop at the dealer and now the sound is gone and the car does raise and lower like normal. Weird! I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

your airmatic pump is going bad...be very carefull fix it now before it blows when you are on the highway and the car drops on the wheel wells an creates more damage....happened to me.....pay the 600 for the pump and install....and save yourself the hassle..and your life....just my opinion.

Agreed, buy yourself a Christmas Present: Airmatic Pump! Keep us updated, let us know what the solution is and the costs associated.
Thanks Guys.....I'm going to have to bring it in on Wednesday after Christmas. Has anyone had this covered by extended warranty before the pump failed? I'm afraid my extended warranty might say if it isn't broken they won't fix it. Also, is there a way that the dealer can test the pump to see if it is going bad? The last few days the noise is gone and everything seems back to normal. Just want to get some info before I go in. Thanks!
