For short distances you will not get an accurate reading. Reset with "R" and then drive for a while to get the accurate MPG. I've been able once to hit 30 mpg but I didn't document it.

LOL I did I was driving in brooklyn local streets mostly, got 5.1 haha

Maybe on the HighWay its accurate or on long distance drives.

I went through my first tank rather quickly I guess it was the fast driving and AC on always.

I've averaged 18.4 over the past 4 months, which I feel gives a pretty good indication (S600). I'm heavy on the pedal at times, but mainly drive it easy.

I've gotten as much as 21.8 mpg (tank average) and as little as 14.7 (tank average).

Most of my driving is suburban and highway.....

To improve your gas mileage there are a couple of things you can do. Change your air filters to make your car breath easier, check your tire pressure 29 front and 32 rear, change your fuel filter atleast at 30K miles, burn atleast 91 octane and be cool with the foot and keep your services upto date. You should be at the 17-26 range.

Gas Mileage

I have an '03 S430 and usually average about 22mpg per tankful. My daily commute consists of 80mph for the first 15 miles, then stop and go for the next 20 miles, then around 70mph for the last 10 miles. I've gotten as high as 27.7 averaging around 65-70mph with little or no traffic.

My 88 mi round trip to work usually averages 24-25mpg on 17" rims (225) and 22 mpg on the 19" rims. Ouch. I even have the 19" rims (255 & 285) inflated higher.

Has anyone else seen their mpg drop when changing rims?

You need some serious work done on that car.... Thats terrible...

I was doing 25 to 27 until I got my software update now I'm at 21 to 22 but a lot more aggressive performance..

at 12 mpg, you should be performing better than An S65 power wise because it get better mileage than that... I'm guessing you're not.

I've avg. 17.4 since I bought my 01 4 weeks ago with about 600 miles. I plan on keeping records of each 1000 miles.

Im guessing its city driving....lol...

I got 250 a full tank just driving around manhattan and brooklyn..

Im gonna record my trip to Canada on the Highway.. I hope to get in the 20's too see accurate numbers.

My06 maybe its because you have an S430 IDK :S.

Im not really worried though

When I drove to Atlantic City I did 130 miles in only 1 gauge. S-class has 4 gauges. So I can possible get up to 400-520. So I'm guessing everything is fine.

I'll see on my trip to Canada

there is only 2 or 3mpg difference between the S430 and S500.. not 10. Believe me if your mileage is that bad.. you have issues..

I know you shopped a lot before your purchase so can you tell if there is much of a performance diffence between your 500 and the other 500's you've driven?

You should be getting about 17 city and 21 highway all day.

14 means something is not up to par.... It could be a million things but not too many things affect mileage that drastically and you not be able to notice
except subtle engine management disfunctions..

How many miles to you have now? when did you last change your air filters? fuel filter? can you still do at least a 6.7 second 0 to 60? if not.. then you are not performing the way you should. thats why your mileage is down..

18 city and 21 hwy with climate control set to auto 70F.this isnt like our last E-320 that got consistant 29 mpg hwy.but i could care less, everything about the S-500 makes it worth the added cost of fuel.what is kind of odd is that i can get 21mpg at 75 mph or 90mph using the cruise control.

My performance is top notch. Maybe my tire pressure is off?

Yes I had fuel and air filter changed.

Maybe the ECU PC is retarded and needs a smack ? lol

My 0-60 in like 5.95.

Is it possible that I acclerate and brake every 2 seconds? lol
