Engine oil notice!

I was driving my car and all of a sudden,.. the dash indicates.... engine oil reduce engine oil level. My oil was serviced and changed in June. Why this message now? Now it reads... Engine oil..visit workshop. The oil dipstick shows good. Not even at max, although after I drove the car to a level surface to check oil level amount, I get the reading that "car not level" so i cannot get a digital analysis. Is this cause for major work? Do I need an oil change. No leaks anywhere that I can see!

Does it still come on after your restart the car? Because sometimes the MB comp glitches on dumb things.

According to the manual, that message means it thinks there is no oil in the engine. Since there is, it probably means the level sensor is kaput. The book says water in the oil could also be responsible, but if the engine is running smoothly that's not likely. I'd still take it to the dealer ASAP.

This message fist came on when I was at 70 mph give or take. The engine runs fine. I am somewhat mechanically inclined so after seeing that error, I thought that maybe the oil was too high .What in the world would cause that? I figure I need to siphon or drain the oil. but when I checked the stick visually,... not the case. Only after it warms up and I drive 10 to 15 miles that I get the message. I sometimes think that the benzes are over engineered. Too many things that can cause a panic. Still love mine though. Nothing obvious that I see, so I will have to take it in for the Stealer estimate. I feel the same that it may be some sort of sensor. No need to wait till it is too late for another suprise.

Well, The "engine oil visit workshop" indicator still comes on, even after it initialy read "engine oil reduce oil level" ,and I siphoned the oil to where it is min max on the dipstick. I was finally able to check the oil by the instrument panel and it shows o.k. It is only after I drive the car about 10 miles or when it warms up that I get this notice. I think it could be a bad sensor.

Your thoughts.

According to the manual, "ENGINE OIL -- VISIT WORKSHOP" means either the oil is critically low or there is water in the oil. "ENGINE OIL LEVEL -- VISIT WORKSHOP" means the sensor is not working. It's still possible that your sensor is bad, but that's not what the diagnostic is telling you. You can either keep wondering or take it in, but the facts are not going to change.

E-Z-E,

Always go by the stick reading, not the car computer.

Mmaann, wish my E500 had an oil dipstick. I too agree, that it may be a faulty sensor.
