"" secondary air pump ""

On the W220 it is electric, located at the front of the engine. It spins at very high rpms and hates water.
The Pump runs at cold start for maybe a couple of minutes.
They like to emit a high pitch whine when the bearings are about to go. When they fail completely they will throw a CEL
The Pump is expensive around $700.00 List - Retail.
See Attached. Hope this helps - By the way why do you ask?

Emissions Related. It injects additional oxygen into the exhaust to help warm up the catalytic converters.
