Speaking of Repairs....
Speaking of Which... I need rotors... Anybody know who has them without me having to wait weeks to get??
Performance gave me a 2 week turnaround.... and OEM parts direct doesn't seem to work anymore....?

I have owned my 2000 S500 for over a year now. I was my first foray into the big MB's. I bought the 4 year extended warrenty for my car. It has saved me money, even for regular service.
My only major problem, which Skylaw has been very helpful with is the Command Unit. A tape is stuck in the tape drive. My local MB dealer could not fix it. I have scouted around for a used head unit, the run about $1,400 used.
There is nothing cheap about these cars.
I love it and look forward to buying my next S500.
As every one has said, make sure you have money in the bank, just in case.

As for your seat trim, try this for a neat solution - https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...stic+trim+seat

If one of the lighters that doesn't work is in the back, turn off the child lock/window lockout feature on your driver's side door (at the center of the 4 window control buttons). It also disables the rear lighters.

Good Luck with an early W220 (2000 S430)
I am probably going to jinx my car for having said this.
I have a early model W220 - a 2000 S430 with 97K miles on it.
Most of my troubles were covered by a recall - burned out dash (early W220s), front engine harmonic balancer (lots of $$$ but covered by recall).
The only repair I had to do was the camshaft sensor which is also a known problem on early w220s. I got it for $90 and had it replaced for $90.
Prophylactically, I had the front struts resealed - I hope that this will make my airmatic pump live longer. I laso had the tranny fluid changed at 95K miles ($250 at dealer) and changed the radiator and brake fluid myself.
SUMMARY: Buy an early W220 ONLY if you are mechanically inclined and are knowledgable on the car OR have a large repair fund in hand.

I forgot to mention that my dash control went out - it went dark, but was covered as part of a recall. I actually ended up with a newer dash board.

You cant compare the 220 and the 140.
No matter what you pay for the car, borrow an extra $10K and put it in an escrow account for airmatic/electrical problems. If it were me, I'd get a 1997-99 model 140. They have problems too but those years were fabulous for MB.
The car is more solid build , rides more German like, very classy looking, less Japanese looking, and cheaper priced too.
Just my opinion as you might not like the 140 styling. It was criticized by many but I thought it was terrific. Owned two of them.
I also owned a 2000 S500 when they first came out and just didn't like the cheapness of it. I worked hard to like it but after 18 months , went elsewhere.

What do you think the cost to replace a COMAND or SAM is? I've had several repairs (paid for by warranty) on my 2001 S55 that would have run this much. If you've avoided these problems, that's great. But they're not rare by any means on older W220s.

Same problem here...
I have 2002 S500 (Northern California). This morning when I got out I saw the rear driver side very low. The other three sides are just fine. Last Saturday I got to sit in the back while my sister-in-law was driving my car and I could hear "thud" sounds when it went over the bumps. I made a note to have it checked out but couldn't get around doing so and now this morning it was low.
I am wondering it is just the shock/strut or something else? I never got any warning lights for Airmatic or anything. When Iraise the car via the button on the dash, it goes up and drops low on the reat driver side.
Can anyone help me with my question?
Thanks in advance.

how would you diagnose the EIS ?
I agree with you.. 2000 model seems to be the absolute worst...
can't get a 2004 for 5k? that I do not agree with you.. yes you can, of course it will have higher mileage, but they are out there.. i just priced a 2004 in dallas for 27K with low miles so don't say no you can't because you'd really be surprised what's out there these days...
Happy to say that mine has been okay o far.. just normal low ticket stuff....
But I can safely say that I will never see a $2000 electrical bill or a $3000 suspension bill.. My labor is a fraction of that.
