Unless your a dealer dont expect to get it this low...
No saying these prices are dollar for dollar, but the mark-up just isn't there anymore.. 1500 to 2000 net is great for a dealer..
Most of their money is made up on the back end with financing, and the front end with trades..

You can see the prices drop crazy from December Auction to Jan 2008 Auction.

I am thinking that 2005 and 2006 W220 will be more affordable later this year. 2005 and 2006 W220 are the most bug free, has much improved Airmatic system.
Depereciation of W220 is heart breaking, but this is life.
Price for all large luxury sedan drop like rock. Check out the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Jag JX, Lexus LS430. Depreciation is just as bad, if not worse, than the W220 S series. A friend of mine just pick up a 2005 LS430, Ultra Luxury package (rear massage seat with fridge and full control), for $30K !!!. Consignment car. As these car age, the cost of maintenance and service remain at very-expensive level, this is why price tank. . It's not the cost of the cars, it's the upkeep of them that could be burden for people.
I actually enjoy this type of depreciation: it allows me to buy a very decent car at very reasonable price. I am not looking for retain resale once I've bought the car, so it could depreciate all it wants. As long as I got a good deal when I buy, not when I sale, that's all matter.
Unless it's an Enzo, price of all car tank the moment you put 1 mile on the car. I could see the point of people who baby or pamper their car, for their love or passion about it. But to baby or squeeze your life to minimize mileage on it, in hope of keeping its value, is just wishful thinking.
Look at one year old Bentley or Masserati, and see how much price have tanked compared to new, you'll be shocked.
Buy a car when you can and enjoy it, they are not collectible nor investment.
Have my car for 7 months, putting 25K mile on it, a set of tire/brake, two oil changes, and I've enjoyed every bit of it. No problem whatsoever so far.

are a huge part of the problem. If they would help in sustaining values of cars, people could trade more often and the dealers would come out way ahead. As is, no one can trade because they're stuck with upside down equity for at least 4 years preventing trades. You can hide upside down equity maybe once or twice with sneaky financing, but eventually the customer is log jammed in upside down equity and can't be a repeat buyer for years. It also makes me wonder how gap insurance companies can stay in business when someone totals a car out owing 40% more on the car than what it's worth.
And they wonder why their inventory is growing and their lots are empty of shoppers!!! The dealerships are shooting themselves in the foot. If they are so called making their 7% profit at the point of sale, then why does the car drop another 20% throughout the year? It's because the dealers drive that value down by trying to rape the customer on the next car!!!!

they sold it within a week........People seems to have a lot of money to spend
Therefore I am moving to a W221..

Please don't get happy with IRS rebate checks coming to you in May or June. This is not free money, this is your tax money. Politition from both parties along with president want you to feel good with rebate check, but don't forget this is your hard earn money that IRS is giving you back.

Zam, yes you are right I was out in market 4 months ago looking for W220. I was interested in 2004 W220 but then back of due to first year with 7 speed transmission.
I holded my green and now I can afford with same $$ 2005 W220, but look like this time I will go for my first AMG MB. I am looking at 2005 S55. I am hoping that in next 6-9 months I will be able to get a good 2005 S55.
I wonder what the hell is going on...recession, weak dollar, ****ty stock market....but the mercedes showroom was full of people...

You are right the bank, the broker and CEO of big Wallstreet firm keep making money and getting rich and American middle class is crunch in this economy.
