Installing Your Ipod-dice

i haven't posted in a while but finished installing my ipod interface into my 2000 s class and wanted to help everyone out. I read previous posts and honestly they weren't too helpful. It took me 5 hours to figure everything out and only 30 minutes to actually install it. Mine is working PERFECTLY. Here is what you do first if you currently have a cd changer you are going to have to take it out of the fiber optic loop. TURN OFF CAR FIRST! Its simple unplug the fiber optic cable and mate it with the corresponding cable on the amplifier this should leave you with one extra fiber optic. Next you will need to remove the command unit. There are screws on each side of the ash tray that will allow you to pull out the ash tray and carefully remove the wood trim. Next there are only 4 screws holding in the command unit. Once you have it out you will need to connect the b2b unit to the fiber optic loop just as you did with the amplifier. If you get it backwards the command unit will come but you wont get sound. There are two harnesses to the right on the back of the command. Lets deal with the TOP on first you will need to locate the blue wire going to this harness. Strip it and connect the blue wire from the b2b lead. Switch to the BOTTOM connector and connect the power and ground to the red and brown wires on the b2b unit. NExt hook up the DICE box and the ipod harness and turn it on. YOU SHOULD GET SOUND. Hope this help i know this wasn't the most detailed but a little guidance goes a long way it should save you major time. Feel free to email me at jason.dfm@gmail.com if you have any questions.

IPod Interface Unit

Here is a company that came out with a device that can be installed in your car to make the ipod work via the command unit. My son installed one in his 04 741li and it works perfect. Actually shows what song is playing. However, and there is always a however. It has to be a 2004 S or higher because of the fiber optics used in the car. Hope this helps.

I don't see the S class listed under supported vehicles.

As pointed out in the first post, you have to give up your CD Changer with the DICE unit. I also understand that scrolling through long lists of songs is a pain, because you must wait for each to start playing before scrolling to the next.

The Dension Gateway 500 allows most cars to retain their CD Changers and scrolling is much easier. See https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/194660-gateway-500-most-o-good-unit-poor-documentation.html and https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...51#post2471051

The Dension unit is available for both D2B and MOST fiber optics (though song titles will not appear on screen in the D2B installation). You can, however, navigate to playlists, albums, or artists on the iPod, then scroll through songs with the COMAND or H/U controls and steering wheel controls.

I'd like to know the same thing for my 2000 S500.

I have thousands of songs, don't want to have to wait for each to play just to find a song with the DICE unit.

You need the Dension Gateway 500 for D2B. I wrote up an installation on a S-500, but yours would be far simpler because there is only one way to install the fiber optics connections for the D2B version, and it isn't nearly as complicated as it was for my MOST installation (D2B and MOST refer to the type of fiber optics bus your car has). You don't have to make all the changes in the trunk for your cars.

As cited above, see https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=194660 - (The pictures may be easier to see at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...rime-time.html).
