2002 S500 Buzzing Sound
When you start the car and put it in reverse to back out of say a parking space and then put the car in drive and begin to move forward the car makes a loud buzzing sound for a few seconds. It only makes this noise when the car is off and then you start it. You can replicate the noise by parking the car and turning the car off, take key out of ignition. Wait for a minute, then start the car put it in reverse and then put it in drive and in the first few feet of driving forward you will hear the “buzz”. The car will not make the sound after the initial start up, so if the car is already running and you put it in reverse and then drive it will not make the noise.
The Dealer tells me it is normal - that it is a K Bit Test for the Anti-Lock Brake System - Self Test.
Anybody else have this Buzzing Noise it only lasts about 3 seconds, none-the-less it is annoying.

First of all, it is not normal , regardless of what the dealer says. It does sound like something like a suspension pump going bad as the car settles between start cycles and it is working extra hard to get out of that settled position. That would be my guess is that it is the ABC pump going bad as we all know this was the biggest problem on these cars, especially around the time of the 2000-02 models.
