I saw an S63 yesterday!

Well, I was coming back to Florida from my trip to Buffalo, NY. I arrived at the Palm Beach airport and as I was walking through the "premium" parking lot I saw an unusually SEXY S class. I was tempted, and walked up to it and noticed it had...

"S63____________________//AMG"

...On the back, so I took a peep inside the window since the owner was probably in another state and I saw all the usual AMG trimmings. I highly doubt this was a real S63, it was probably an S55 (Still extremely awesome) with the 55 replaced with a 63. None the less, it was pretty cool seeing a "fake" S63, the only people who really know about the "63" AMG's are true Mercedes enthusiasts... hopefully the owner isn't reading this right now!

you really think it was fake?

I dont think that someone that paid that much for that car would put on a fake badge. Most people would be quite happy with the S55 badge, if thats what it is. What made you think it wasnt really an S63?

Well, for one thing; S63's and even CL63's for that matter are not available in the USA.

I think that these are available for import, as long as the emissions, and speed limiter meet federal import specifications.

For all cars entering North America, the speed limiter must be set at 155 mph. You may of course have the limiter removed once the car has been imported.

RennTech, of South Florida, or your dealer would be able to remove this limiter.

Guys, next time this happens, why dont U note down the chassis number [from the windscreen] - then we can work out what it really is !

I don't know about you guys but I think it is really lame to fake your car's true identity. If you have an S430 just be happy with it instead of making it into an S500, S600 or even an S55. I think I would be extremely embarrased if someone came up to me and found out I have an S430 instead of an S55. Maybe they would ask to see the Instrument cluster and it wouldn't say AMG on it - that's one way they could find out. I don't know. That's just my opinion. Out here in Silicon Valley, I see a lot of fakes from a C55 to an E320 faking as an E55. What are you guys' opinions? I don't mind so much that people put AMG on their cars as long as they have something AMG but just to throw a Brabus badge or Lorinser badge is another lame thing to do.

I agree, we had the S430 badges removed from our car, and i'm planning to get the C230 and Kompressor badges removed from that too, however i'm not planning on putting any S55 or C32 badges on either. I feel the car looks a lot cleaner without any of the badges, and we were constantly getting people asking us about the 430 after having the badges removed. Since it was the first gen S, most people didn't realize which model it was . The only reason i'd put an S55 badge on the car is if i slammed it, put 20's on it,and put the whole AMG package around. even then.. maybe i'd still leave the badges off just to make people wonder

I am even considering removing ALL badges from my SL55 AMG..

What would really be funny would be to install SL500 badges on the SL55... lol... BUT I would not do that...

I will more than likely leave the SL55 on, and remove the "V8 kompressor". I feel this one breaks up the lines of the side of the car.. I will have to wait until the thing is delivered, and I see it "in the flesh"...

I can play around in PhotoShop all day, but all in all, will not be able to decide until I am standing next to the car...

Honestly, I've never understood why people (both in the US and in Europe) decide to remove all signs of badging from their cars...I mean, guys, seriously, paying high-5-digits or 6-digits for a car, and an M-B at that...

I'm looking forward to the day I can buy my Mercedes...and here you guys are removing all signs of its identity!! I just wonder why...

On a different note, John, perhaps it WAS an S63 AMG. Since obviously they can be imported, as with an earlier post about a CL63 AMG in North Carolina, again the question begs: what made you immediately discount it as an S55? Imagine if it was an S63! You are one of the few in the nation who has seen one!

I would leave the badges on the rear. The side badges look sweet when removed however.

I understand your point, but the "side badges" are too much for me... they clutter the look of the car... I do like the rear ones..
