Spring Time Wheel Well Cleaning

I read this FANTASTIC guide the other day: http://www.detailersdomain.com/index...n=Custom&ID=67

Basically the guy suggests cleaning all the salt, sand and other **** out of your wheel wells before you put on your summer wheels...

So here is my attempt with details...

What you will need:

Jack
Brake Parts Cleaner
Engine Degreaser
Car Wash Concentrate
Sand Paper
Hard Bristle Rim Brush
Rags and Towels

How much time will you need:

1.5 to 2 hours

What I used:

Mothers Back-to-Black
Meguiar's NXT Car Wash
Advance Wheel & Tire Cleaner
GUNK Engine Brite
CRC Brakleen Brake Parts Cleaner
Dupli-Color Silver Coating
RUST-OLEUM Satin Black Spray Paint
Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer

*** POWER WASHER RECOMMENDED!

Remove the wheel, spray the area with water and then with a rag or car cleaning mitt clean the whole area including the shock, control arms, etc with the car was solution. Wash the soap away with water and spray only the wheel well with wheel and tire cleaner. Clean it with a rag, wash it off. If there is a lot of grease, you might want to give it a wash with the engine degreaser also. I sanded all the rust off of my hubs. If the plastic is old and dry, you will want to give it a very LIGHT coat of the Back-to-Black stuff.

I also cleaned the inside and outside of the rims thoroughly while they were off the car.

...and I also painted my nasty rusty lug nuts while I was cleaning each one of the wheel wells...

Now to the pictures...

Good job, it's A LOT of work isn't it? It's on my list, not sure if you mentioned it. Don't forget to wax the summer wheels if you didn't last fall.

If it weren't for the pictures.........

If it weren't for the pictures, I would have never even considered it. Now I have another project to add to my list.

Looks great.

If You Ask Why?

if you have to ask why bother ?, than you would not likely ever understand the reasons why some owners go to this extent to maintain their vehicles.to each their own.
