Not another tint question!

But i searched the threads and cant answer my question. The question is can i apply a metalized tint on our 2003 S-500 that has the factory thermal glass option?.the tint guy uses llumar-atr, it's metalized.he says the manufacturer says no go because the car allready has a metal laminant in between the glass paynes and you could get an unknown adverse effect.

The only disruption would be in the back window with the integrated FM antenna. Other than that the choice is upto you. You will probably get a poor reception on your radio at worst.

thanks for the info

i called mbusa and they have no answer since it is an aftermarket accessory.but the techs opinion was same as yours, possible degraded fm performance but no risks to glass laminant.thanks for your input.

If you use a bluetooth phone that is not connected to the car's external antenna (most are not), expect decreased connectivity (signal strength) as well.

Also - unless the installer is very careful, water getting into your door can kill your Door Control Unit - affecting your windows, door locks, express window features, and the like. Very expensive.

best window tinting

thanks for the input,iv'e got this policy of not sacraficing any of the engineering that MB has put into the car when it comes to adding accessories.so i found "best window tinting"in tustin ca,they use non metalic tint with lifetime warranty and will do all seven windows for $230.

And an added measure would be to add felt tape or sheep skin to the inner linning of the window seal which overtime will SCRATCH your tint and make a beautiful tint look ugly. Trust me. It looks really ugly. This process involves removing your door linning to gain access to that white little plastice wedge. I choose not to tint my 06 but I had this problem in MY00 and obviously other problems. Remember this is a MB, there is no such thing as a simple job with this car. If it's a simple job then you missed a step.
