Hi all,
I have 2001 S500 with 95k miles. One day after work i parked my car in the garage as usual, I tried to start the car and noticed that BAS/ESP light came on and the shifter knob is stuck in Parking. I cant drive it becaue the shifter wont come out of parking. So now I have the BAS, ESP lights on and cant drive it because the shifter is stuck in parking. Ive read a lot of comments about how common this problem is and how easy it is do it yourself. I need some directions.
Does anyone know whats going on or what the problem is? Please help!
Thanks,

Check the brake light switch which is located at brake padel. It is easy and you can do it by yourself.

Does the ABS light come on aswel, if it does it could be a wheel sensor, mine had the same lights/warning come on + the ABS light and the transmission messed about and the steering was stiff, and it was the sensor, apparantly it is all on the same circuit

First, start the car without pressing brake pedal. Check and observe ABS/BAS lights. Then press brake pedal and closely listen to shifter and hear any click sound. If there is no click and ABS light, it is the problem. The switch is just behind the brake pedal and you can access from the driver foot well area of the car. It is a cheap repair and you should start from there before further expensive works.Originally Posted by fbaut15
Do you know what it looks like, and how to get to it?
