My car started doing the same thing, then it got more and more frequent. I pulled the fuel filter and I have never had the problem again. That's why I said go with the obvious.
While 90% of the time the CPS may be the culprit, you will find that the Cps because it is linked to the emission system will also set a code 90% of the time.
Hopefully he'll get to the shop an enlighten us all..
I don't get it. How does it link? someone please explain to me. I would like to learn.
Since there is only one CEL which is yellow there are no critical or non critical status bit sent from the ECU.
When the CEL began to appear on cars in the 80's it was tied exclusively to the emissions system. As engine management evolved over the years, this same output has been used to identify engine management isuues as they indrectly relate to the emission system. THe CPS is one of those components.
Indication of a failure is conditional, hence the 90% instead of 100.
BTW manufacturers have been prohibited to have a red CEL because this means a critical problem exists and the car should be stopped.
Brake, Alternator, Temp, are considered critical faults therefore they are red.
I guess lack of forward thinking on the part of the Auto industry is the blame for the bundling of all of these items that trigger a yellow light.
I believe some of them should actually be red and I am sure they would love to but its too late now...
