I recently acquired a 2002 s500. This car was pretty bone stock with no doo daads. Well, that was about to change.

Hi Sunil.

Though project.
I have retrofitted the most of your list already to my old car.
If you are stuck i might be able to help.
(eg. the Distronic cable for the center console)

Cheers, Frank

Also can I put in a special request for the DIY of the distronic retrofit since you will be undertaking it anyway? It will be greatly appreciated...

Its crazy to see how much wiring and sensors exist in this car. Makes me want to send it away before all that stuff breaks as well!!

That's quite a disease you've got there. There's no sane reason to do this, which is what makes it so awesome. The rear fridge means a new fuel tank fergawdsakes, and the rear A/C is the ultimate Stupid Mercedes Trick: I've had mine on once (for show) and it means no console storage. But the stationary heater and heated steering wheel, in Texas, are my absolute favorites! Bravo.

The hardware part can be done eaisly but you cannot code the ME unit without dealer support and a star diagnose system

It's an optional feature on the W220 AFAIK... maybe standard on the S600?

Is the heater control button on the wheel or dash and is there a control module?
Thanks,
Will

If I remember correctly, it's the same stalk as the one for adjusting the height/position of the steering wheel. Then end of the stalk twists to turn on/off the heating function.

yes it was an option. You have to add the control module, harness and the actual heated steering wheel with switch.

Props to you for taking apart this car, something I would never have the ***** to do. Sunil, do you have a business in Houston now? I need to take out my instrument cluster because there's a horrible rattle coming from inside. I don't want to be ripped off on buying that cluster key from the dealer.
