100,000 MILES
Today my 01 S500 went over the 100,000 mile mark, still solid, still feels like it has a lot of life left to it. Nice to have a product that does actually last.

Let it be known that on this day, a W220 owner wrote in for no reason but to say something good about his car. Mark it!!!!!
This is such a rarity - but, truth be told, I suspect that most owners drive their S-Classes daily, experience this result, and say nothing about it. They don't write in because it isn't news - it's expected. Yet the focus of some who write in seems to be on how "awful" the car is.
So, it's good to see a post like this - Thanks, StephenK, and here's wishing you another 100K solid miles. I hope mine gives me the same.

I bought my car two months ago with 69,000KM on the clock, it now has 86,000KM still running very strong. No problems except for the airmatic issue. This engine is bullet proof.

Skylaw makes a good point that is spot on. I've had my '04 for only about six months, but every day in it is a new pleasure. It isn't the first MRZ I've owned, but it is far-and-away the best. Its complexity makes it interesting at many levels, not the least being all the terrific burps and belches it makes on shut-down. I've personified it--today I had the tires rotated and it looked comical on the lift with its tires dangling and the warning lights glowing.
It's a terrific car that gives me pleasure all out of proportion to the few niggling complaints I have. And whatever else it may be, it is the iconic benchmark that reduces anything else on the road to a wannabe.

Nice! You're all right about not posting with no problems around! I've sold my old car (1992 500 SEL) a few days ago with 223k miles on the odometer. up to 200k miles I've had no major problems and I've bought the car in 1996 with just 55k miles on it.

S, GL, Escalade ESV, my shoes
During the 14 months course, my EIS failed ($540), and the air-matic front strut failed ($400 to reseal), couple oil changes, a set of tire, and set of brake. And that's all. I notice my trunk soft-close no longer work, but it's not an issue for me, so unlikely I'll fix it anytime soon.
Car still look, feel, & ride as good as new.

As a previous owner of an S500 for almost 3 years and now the owner of my second W220, I can agree 100% that this car makes driving pretty much anywhere an absolute pleasure. The car's complexity and engineering wonders that are at work every time you turn the key (or press the start button) is what makes it such a special car to me.
I drove my 2003 S500 for almost 3 years and clocked in about 52,000 miles on the car.
In that time the car had to go to the dealer for anything other than routine oil changes 2 TIMES!
First time the solenoid inside the ESM failed and the car had to be towed to the dealer and it was there for 3 days. Covered under warranty.
Second time the car had to be towed to the dealer because I locked the keys inside the trunk and when road-assistance arrived they had to forcefully break into the car and while disabling the alarm they shorted and burned out the SAM, which was fixed free of charge because I called Mercedes North America and told them how disgusted I was that they had to wedge the door and pry it open to unlock a $90,000 car. Car was there overnight and I got a free oil change out of it too.
Someone asked me why I bought the "same" car again and my response was that as long as Mercedes keeps making the S-Class I will continue to buy them.

Congratulations! Thanks for letting us know... Though I am way at the beginning of my (w221) odometer (only 8000 miles and no problems to date) I hope to post the same in about... 10 years from now at my current rate... After all once you have an S-Class... what reason is there to change... where else is there to go?
