a/c charge capacity amout

Hello! I am new to this forum. You members a great. Very savy and know a great deal about our cars. Could someone tell me the total charge capacity of refrigerant R134a for the 1999 s-500. And the performance pressures. If you can help I thank you in advance. It"s cooling but struggles in the heat(Miami).

Welcome to the forum!

I don't have the data you request; but be aware that the model year '00 S-Classes (produced beginning in '99) had A/C systems with condensers (front coils) that were too small for the job; this was changed somewhat in mid-production by enlarging the condenser; and I believe the A/C design was revamped again for the '01 model year.

Although I had a '00 with the larger front condenser, it still cooled more slowly that my current car. It would eventually get there, but it took some time.

My '00 was black on black, and even with fairly dark tinted windows, got pretty hot even in Tampa. Although I think black is the best color by far for the W200, my '05 is silver with a light gray interior, and is at leat 20 degrees cooler after being parked in the sun. Even without additional tint, it's much cooler than the '00 and the A/C has greater capability.

None of that should stop you from checking your system; but even if it's performing at its peak, it will take some time to cool the car.

And one hint that I learned years ago that I used a lot with the '00: Crack both of your rear windows open about 3 to 4 inches when you start to drive - leave them open until you feel the A/C start cooling decently. Gets a lot of the superheated air out.

You may find the automatic window opening feature for the windows that operates with the key to be useful too. Helps to get rid of that awful blast of hot air that spills out when you first open the doors. Point the smartkey toward the little black square window in the front door handles from up to 12-15 feet away; hold the "unlock" button down until the windows start down. Your doors unlock, and the window and sunroof open.

my car is labeled April/1999. I understand what you are saying. But I think over the last 9 years some refrigerant escape is inevitable. Thanks

Indeed; and if this is the first service it has had, you have a pretty good system.
