coolant temperature sender

My S500 is showing a low coolant message on the dash display, even after I have topped it off ( which took very little coolant).
My coolant temp. gauge reading has been normal, so I think it is the sender. Is this a DIY easy to do, and where is the sender located?
Thanks

It sounds like you want the coolant level sensor, not the coolant temperator sensor. If so, it's on the coolant expansion tank. It's an easy job.

You should also know that sometimes a bad windshield washer fluid level sensor masquerades as a bad coolant level sensor. They are wired together and either can go bad in a way to mimic the other. You might want to replace both.

Thanks, Whoover. My windshield washer level warning comes on too, so I will replace both.
