No but Siriusly!

Okay so I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my own question but I'm going to ask anyway. Did MB offer a free lifetime subscription to Sirius when installed. My car which I just bought used, has Sirius and it works. I am not paying anything for it and while it's not a big thing for me as I have CDC, CD/DVD and iPod, I would like to know if this is just going to stop working some day before I spend a lot of time figuring it out.

When Sirius is installed by MB it typically includes one year of service (not free, just part of the price). Near the end of the year Sirius contacts you to get renewal information (i.e., a credit card number). You could call Sirius customer service and they can tell you when your service expires. On the other hand, if you have somehow gotten service under the radar, such a call may trigger action on their part.

I'd say just keep using it until it expires or until you receive some kind of renewal notification and then decide what you want to do.

Until then, just enjoy the car.

I did receive a lifetime guarentee from Siruis however it was not after my first renewal. I believe the pitch was for a limited time they were offering this. Which you can transfer to another car for 75 bucks. I went for it, I believe it equaled around 3.5 years of normal payments.

It may be that the subscription of the previous owner hasn't expired yet and he or she did not transfer it or ask for a refund. When it does expire, you can go online or call Sirius and extend the subscription.

You didn't say how old the car is. Maybe the free year hasn't expired yet.

Or maybe the previous owner took the lifetime subscription and didn't realize that they could transfer it to a new radio. In that case, you would be very lucky.

Sirius and XM have merged. I am waiting to see how it will affect the built-in radios as well as the portable radios. I have a portable XM radio. I am renewing the subscription on a quarterly basis waiting to see the new programming structure and whether or not I will need a new radio to get the programming that I want. But I do love my XM radio.

Thugs..

When your subscription runs out, you'll know.. your car will simply display "cal Sirius" or you serial number..

If you are curious, you can just call the 800# and give them the serial number iof your unit and they will tell you when it will expire.
I haven;t paid for siruis since I've had my car.. turns out they allowed me to transfer a balance from an old account to this one but that happen only after the existing account expired.. that was almost 2 years ago..

Thanks guys,
I think I'm just going to keep quiet and see what happens. Hopefully someone did pay for the lifetime subscription we'll see.
