You didn't say how old the car is. Maybe the free year hasn't expired yet.
Or maybe the previous owner took the lifetime subscription and didn't realize that they could transfer it to a new radio. In that case, you would be very lucky.
Sirius and XM have merged. I am waiting to see how it will affect the built-in radios as well as the portable radios. I have a portable XM radio. I am renewing the subscription on a quarterly basis waiting to see the new programming structure and whether or not I will need a new radio to get the programming that I want. But I do love my XM radio.
When your subscription runs out, you'll know.. your car will simply display "cal Sirius" or you serial number..
If you are curious, you can just call the 800# and give them the serial number iof your unit and they will tell you when it will expire.
I haven;t paid for siruis since I've had my car.. turns out they allowed me to transfer a balance from an old account to this one but that happen only after the existing account expired.. that was almost 2 years ago..
