No I did not buy it, but also missed the 2004 S55
Thanks gusy, No I did not buy it today in Auction.
There was 2004 S55 with 56K miles and all the option except SAT Radio, it went for $27000. I wanted to pay only $23000. It has distronic, parktronic, rear seat comfort package with hot/cold seat etc etc.
See the report.
https://mmsc400.manheim.com/MABEL/EC...ONFIGID=BUYER#
I will try again in next auction.
Prices of W220 are falling like rating of president Bush.
I will nail one 2006 W220 or 2004-2005 S55 very soon under $25000. My target was by Dec 2008, but the prices are coming down faster than I thought it would.

If you buy a car for commute or enjoy driving, then buy when you can. If you buy a car w/ mentality of house-buyer (wait til price bottom), guess what ? price will keep falling, doesn't matter what kind of car it is.

HEre's what I say...
its a 15K car with a good title.. WHo cares if its a dealer buyback,, Looking at the sheet it looks like this thing coasted through prep on a tuesday..
Al of that labor stuff on that manhein form is just standard blah blah.. the PDF tells the reason why it was taken back to the dealer and most of that stuff was perdelivery prep stuff that didn't get done and caused problems for the buyer...
Bottom line it still has low miles and lots of potential.. even if you sink 10K in DIy's you will have a nice low mileage 2006 S500 for 25K.. and BtW just because its a dealer buyback does not mean that the car is not under factory warranty, it only means that the original owner in Texas got tired of this thing living in the dealers garage.. Somebody put 30Kk miles on it in the last two years, that has to account for something... I'll bet you that that baby is still factory warranty car. even if it isn't so what...
I'd be inclined if I wanted to invest in project like this but I am not int the market and happen to be pretty occupied keeping my daily driver blinging...LOL..
Like the Previous poster said.. IF you are looking for something to put the keys in and drive, then you should stop looking at these types of cars..
OTOH,(on the other hand.)
If you want the perfect project car for a good price that you won't have to do much to make a nice car out of..well,, there you go!.

Im afraid you wont get the chance to buy it for 15k.. It will get shipped out of the country before it goes for 15k..
The branded title wont hurt it as much as you think, Im guessing 10% less than other comp cars. Foreigners are at every auction with someone on the phone in another country and exporters dont care about lemon law. It will not go for 15k..
I will buy three lemon laws just like it for 15k.. today.. and give you 500 for buying it for me.
I bet it will bring 23-25k..

Better yet, check this out as an example.... They do not have any W220's in inventory at the moment but check out the prices on the other cars....
I Just got a 2005 X5 4.4 from them for 26K 38K mile and still under factory warranty...
thats 8 to 10K cheaper than anything I saw in Austin...

Thing are cheap for a reason. You've been looking for the W220 for more than a year, I am sure by now you have an idea about price.
If you buy a car for commute or enjoy driving, then buy when you can. If you buy a car w/ mentality of house-buyer (wait til price bottom), guess what ? price will keep falling, doesn't matter what kind of car it is.

Zam, the time is here for me finally. 4 Years ago it took me 1 year to get into my W210, while you were already in one. I am coming to party little late, but will be getting W220 soon. I am trying to get best deal and good car with all the options.
Why did you post such a silly question on here?? you know what the majority of folks are going ot say..

My06clk, is it true that MB will honor factory warranty on Lemon Title car?
Westcoast5, you can get car from Auction. The fees are following.
Auction fee $250
Transportation $50
Inspection $150.
Licen+Reg fees $$$ depending on car price.
To go and buy for you from Auction $900
One catch, you will only get inspection report. You are not allow to go to actual acution. It is dealer only auction. The day of auction you will get phone call and answer any question you have. All the little scratches and ding dang come out with detailing of car.
You will be surprise how many MB dealer comes to auction to buy the cars and then sell it as CPO to you with mark up of $10-8K.
I see most of MB dealer and used car dealer buy the cars from Hi Line Auction like one in Riverside, CA and do minor service and clean up and then sell on E-Bay, Autotraders and Cars.com for mark up of $10-8K.
You save about $5-7K in car price.

Hadam, were you at the Riverside Hi-Line Auction? I was there when I was shopping for mine (decided to go and buy it from a Dealer). Indeed there are 1,000's of W220's for sale and going dirt cheap. Something about "Auction Benzes" scares me though, so I paid alot more $$$$ for CPO and piece of mind....for better or worse.
If a Car goes through an Auction, it shows up on the Carfax yeah?
BTW, I would have probably taken that kind of deal if it were actually gonna go for $15K....I mean, it comes down to the fact that you are getting an unbeatable deal, and there's not THAT much the car can ever depreciate down to (I mean even if it were worth $5K when you were done, you lost $10K, big whoop, people lose more than that the day they drive off a lot), but the flipside is whether it's enough of a pleasure to you to take the risk of sinking alot more $$ into it for problems and stress, etc.

5 bucks says that car is fine. Its likely someone who wanted their car bought back. Most those things look to be made up. Its a 2006 car with the 7g clunk likely and the owner wanted to sell it but did not want to take a hit in value.
So instead of getting rid of the car he told them to take it back.
Happens all the time. My local shop has 4-8 cars bought back a month and 90% of them are just fine. The tech knows its fine the writer knows its fine and so does the owner. Its to easy to force a company to buy a car back when the law is written to protect the customer. You just have to make a lot of noise.
This fine country is full of crooks.

I am thinking to purchase 2006 S500. It is lemon buy back car.
See report. Is it worth to pay $15000 or less in auction for it??

I just check to see where this car end up. I found in Texas, selling for $36000.
It was sold for $26000 with CA lemon title in last Riverside Auction.
How in the world they can buy a California LEMON TITLE car in auction and selling in Texas with clean Title. I believe it is a Fraud to do this.
ANNOUNCED CONDITION: DMV$17, MANUFACTURER'S BUYBACK
INTERNET REMARKS: LEMON LAW BUYBACK/BRANDED TL
REMARKS/ADDITIONAL DAMAGE: Books, Previous Paintwork
DISCLOSURES: LEMON LAW BUYBACK/BRANDED TL-PW R/SIDE
Watch out folks, DON'T buy cars from Texas, it is easy to get clean title in Texas.
See link below. Same VIN number.

wow, since we seem to be on the subject of buying cars through dealer only auctions. I have my eye on a 02 s500 with 122,016 MILES!!!!!!!!! little rear bumper damage :-0 For you dealers out there, what is this car worth to you? What is the retail value of this car? And for anyone who owns a w220 s class with high miles, is this a car I should absolutely stay away from? thanks

Honestly don't pay more than $7K for that Car with that damage and condition. I had a pristine S500 with 152K Miles, ran great during the time I had it (had a very extensive history report and a verified ex-owner). Most of the time, with an Auction Car with that Mileage, I'd stay AWAY from a 220 in that case. It was really hard for me to get rid of my Car due to the Mileage, even with everything being extensively verified, the highest Dealer quote I got was $10K (lucky), most were around $7-$8K), and I was fortunate enough to find someone who payed me $12K for it. Still the most amazing Car you can get for $12K IMO.
Plus it looks like it has Airmatic problems, as the wheels seemed dipped into the wheel well. Maybe it's normal for a Car sitting for a long time. I'd be weary though.
