straight pipes!

alright guys...finally did it today...got straight pipes put in on my S class today...i must say i am so impressed with its new, mean sound! if anyone else is thinking about doing the same...do it. it will bring a smile to your face everytime you hit the pedal.

Quadcammer 09-03-2008 06:41 PM

oh dear god why????

I have never, and will never, understand why someone buys a luxury sedan with not much power (275bhp is not much for a 4300lb sedan), that is DESIGNED to be almost silent, and then gets muffler deletes, straight pipes, deletes the resonator, etc.

The appeal of a loud, slow, luxury sedan to me is absolutely less than zero.

4matic 09-03-2008 08:06 PM

thanks for the opinion sir :y

02S430 09-03-2008 09:36 PM

the 500 is not much faster nor that much more powerful and while its your opinion its his car and he wanted to customize it to his liking then owell, get some pics n a sound clip will ya!!!!!

benz_addict 09-03-2008 10:52 PM

Not worth it. Too much sound it's going to be all show, no go. If you're looking for sound upgrade go with the S55 Mufflers with the quad tips, looks nice and sound...best of all OEM look.

Gondon 09-04-2008 01:47 AM

Do what you need to do. Its your car.

I drive my car very fast, I know it's fast. but its no 55 or 600 if you know what I mean..

of course it isn't much faster or more powerful. (although the difference is about 10%). But you don't see me putting straight pipes on mine, or claiming its fast either, now do you.

driving a car quickly doesn't make it fast.

A new V6 Accord should easily out accelerate your s500.

Oliver,

I thought the same thing when my friend from Indiana gave me a set of ear plugs as he took me outside to show me how he had straight piped his diesel super duty... I just looked at him and said.. 'Why?".. But then I noticed a look of self satisfaction on his face that was so sincere, there was no need for me to wonder or question his motives...He was thrilled sick. How can you argue with that?

Moral of the story... To each his own... right? Celebrate with those who venture out to achieve a sense of purpose in their actions by doing what we all need to do. Whatever it takes to make us happy.:y

No it Cant

At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph

in 99's 302 hp/339 TQ is alot and Im confident my S500 will rape the accord on 60-100

What Im saying is 300/340 TQ HP is good for me and I kno my car is fast, but its a slug compared to other super cars.

K-A 09-04-2008 12:56 PM

My friend did that on his S500 like 6 years ago, sounded pretty badass and was alot of fun (we were in our late teens/early 20's). However, I'm not too confident a 430 Motor will sound nearly as good as a 500?

I know the pleasure a loud exhaust does give I must admit, I did straight Pipes on my Mustang around the same time as my friend did his S500, made driving alot more fun for a while.

agreed.

But if every post said, "well, im glad you like it", this forum would be an awful boring place.

I see you read an edmunds article. Motortrend puts it at 6.5 and 15.0 which is mighty close. even more embarassingly though, the V6 Camry seems to run it in 6.2 and 14.6, which is faster than the S500.

302bhp is a lot...so is 4300lbs

its a quick car, but the power to weight ratio is not nearly high enough to make it "fast", although I do have high standards in this regard.

Gondon 09-04-2008 10:52 PM

Ill never lose to a Camry :)

benz_addict 09-04-2008 10:59 PM

The new accords are fast off the line no doubt but there's no way it has power to pass us from 40-125(limited)

4matic 09-04-2008 11:08 PM

hey again guys...im fairly young and am a mechanic...just wanted something to do and i have always wanted to put the straight pipes in, ever since i have owned the car and personally i am glad i did...i was impressed with the sound that it first made, and figured i would keep them in...as it only took me 35min...anyways thanks for the responses, and im real pleased with it!!
:)

hmmm....

"I think the chrome star has blinded your common sense. 10 times better car? hardly."
"The wheels themselves are not bad. The body kit has me shaking my head though."
"I would strongly advise that you not buy that grille. tacky is a great word for it."
"Can't say I care for that at all."
"For a guy selling a $100k plus vehicle, that grammar/spelling was BRUTAL"
"So what is it that you're doing that you are purchasing (not leasing) a $9x,xxx vehicle at 22?"

These were just a few of Oliverk's posts within the last couple of days/weeks (notincluding comments on this thread)...now maybe im crazy () but im sensing a just a tad bit of "hating" going around. I do not want it to seem as if I am comming at you....I just thought it was a bit weird to see such a repetative occurrence...We can do whatever we want with our cars...yeah oppinions should be given...but wait...if they are asked...however, I do value your opinion...but not much...I don't get why your so hard on some of the mb owners here! im also not saying my responses are perfect...hell I probably don't even help out too many people on here...but what I do is give props when necessary and when I see something I dont like...then i tell them im not really feeling it, but to each his own and that i can appreciate being creative or experimenting.

ohhh....thanks for being a good sport :y

Well, to me, the Mercedes S-Class is the pinnacle of the Mercedes brand. The Mercedes brand is one of class, understatedness, reserve, luxury, quiet comfort, etc. It breaks my heart to see people put 22" rims, chrome this and that, huge stars in the grille, outrageous body kits, etc, etc on their beautiful luxury cars. I tend to think that sort of thing should be left to Honda Civics and Acura Integras. Given that the early 220s are dropping into the teens in terms of price, it seems that some of these civic and integra owners are stepping up to a nicer car, and doing the same kind of ricey modifications, which turn a classy beautiful vehicle into a ghetto, cheesy looking disaster.

As for hating, Im not sure why you would think that. Im giving my opinion, which is based upon the aforementioned statement. I guess you could say that I hate the ricey, cheesy, and trashy modifications people do to staid, mercedes sedans, but at least im consistent in that.

I don't care for the grille, and I think your wheels are too big, but aside from that, your car is a lot more tame than some of the other nonsense on this site and others.

My car is dead nuts stock. No aftermarket bodykit will improve on the looks of the stock AMG sport package. I have no desire to add huge rimz to look like some "baller". The 18s are fine just the way they are.

I don't modify luxury cars with appearance, performance, or exhaust modifications. I tend to find them tasteless.

I have an extremely powerful sports cars for the times I want a loud exhaust and serious performance. I don't delude myself into thinking that a 4300lb top heavy sedan is a performance car. It is not, and never will be.

Cheers!

well oliverK to each his own I have freinds who own porsches and will never touch a thing that the factory did include on there, and then I have freinds who will take it apart the minute they get it. In my opinon if everything was the same this world would be bland.
