New Tires on the S; Vredestein

Yesterday I got my car serviced and he comes up to me and says "Why are you running on Slicks". I reply like what? he goes to show me my car when its on the lift and the rear tires are totally gone!!! . I've drove 10000 miles since I got my car in Dec.

Currently Im looking into a tire called Vredestein my friend S5Lorinser reccommended them to me, they are on his car and Ive read articles about them and they have pretty much beat every top tire company in a shootout (Toyo, Michelin, Pirelli, Etc)

Im having trouble selecting the proper size. The Tire is called Ultrac Sessenta.

MY AMG wheels run on :

245/45YR18 in front and 275/40YR18 in the rear.

Vredestein has my front 245/45/18 , but on the back they only have 275/35/18. I called this shop in Long Island and he told me it would look ridicolous because the front would be bigger than the back.. 45 front/35 back... and he advised me to get different sizes. He recommended 245/40/18 instead on the front so the difference would only be 40 front/35 back . Does anyone have a solution?

gondon, that inner wear is classic under inflation as long as no one has tweaked camber.i never run less than 38 psi front or back especially if you are doing alot of city driving.whatever your tire choice is you should find the correct pressure for your driving style/terrain and check it every time you wash the car.tires arent cheap!

Cobra on the gas cap it says 29 front and 32 back plus +4 psi due to heat.

So I have 33 and 36 PSI.

But yes my right rear tire the pictures above has a nail inside and is slowly deflating all the time, So Im always putting a little air inside

But my left is just the same tread is gone. Its not only due to pressure, but because I drove the **** out of my tires I guess. When I got my car they werent new, I have no idea how many miles it was driven b4 that

You won't notice a visible difference in the aspect ratio of the front tires, but since the rears are wider, you have to use a lower aspect ratio to have the same rolling diameter for speedometer accuracy and for the self-leveling to work.

I'd think twice about taking advice from the guy at the tire shop who said the fronts would be bigger--and I'd for sure think twice before I bought tires from him. He says things that don't make sense.

So what tires will fit?

245/45 and 275/35 he was saying it will fit, but will look ****ty That the S class amg rim combo 245/45 is only supposed to go with 275/40 anything less will look bad ..

First,

This tires are crap. DO youself a favor and buy some tires that at least come in the correct size.

Secondly,

Don;t expect much more than 10K miles on any set of tires you;ll be lucky if you do especially the rears,,

The recommended tire size has nothing to do with the style of rim. AMG or not.. the size you have is the size you should have for staggered setup. You shouldn;t change that for any specific tire.

one of the most important safety concerns on a automobile is proper tire inflation yet it is the SMALLEST,HARDEST TO READ SCRIPT ON THE TIRE CASING!the door jam says one thing and tire manufactures say another.if i run my S at the manufacturers recommended pressures of 28 front and 33 rear the tires will wear prematurely.i think MB pressures are designed for higher speed situations.can someone with knowledge solve this stupid confusion!

Some cars have 265/40/18 in the back.. Mine does and they match up very well with the fronts..

And I would get whatever tire Mercedes recommends for your car.. Nothing less.. The road noise and tread wear on some of these tires are unbelieveable..

Incorrect. That is overinflation.

I think it says this if you do a lot of high speed driving that you need to increase it 4 PSI

S430 Sold :(
Those tires are JUNK I had them on my 18 AMG's and they were pure garbage for me at least. The road noise was horrible. I don't drive to aggressive and I was lucky if I got 7K miles out of them.

Maybe I got a bad set but for now on my 20's I run

Front: Dunlop SP Sport 01
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=H

Back: Dunlop Sp 9000 (Discontinued but I can still find them)
http://www.ctyres.co.uk/product/pic/dunlop_sp9000.gif

They are not cheap, but they are great tires so far.

Ok so those are supposed to be good prices? Tirerack is selling Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season's for $189 each in 265/40/18.. Or you can get Sumitomo's in the same size for $169.. If you are stuck on buying the cheapest tire you can then personally I would go with the F1's..

This is a Mercedes.. Not a Honda.

First of all, find me a corvette with a 245 40 series tire on it.

Secondly, the corvette is a hemorrhoid machine your S is not supposed to be.
It is supposed to be a smooth luxurious quiet riding experience..
You don't hear any corvette guys raving about how smooth their car is on the road and how quiet their tires are do you?

YOu know why? well we all know why. Because the corvette is NOT.

So it's silly to try to justify putting these harsh crappy tires on your car because they are the pick of the day for a few cheap corvette owners who probably change tires every other month.

You should stop trying to sell everybody on those tires.. If you want them Buy them.. I have had 5 set of tires on my car already and I have just found a set that works for me that I'll probably buy again.

This is the first time you need tires and already you are going against the grain by trying to get some odd size, off brand tire for your car. You'll learn.. just go ahead, experience it, and hopefully learn from it as we all did at one time or another. Just don't chime in in a few months crying to us about tires okay??

Im not trying to sell them to anyone or anything , You cant argue with results and the results are pretty good on this tire.

Im just trying to figure out a size to fit !

Plus I remember driving S5lorinser's s500 and I remeber how smooth and quiet these were plus it handled corners great.

I never argue with results

Look at this : http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130943

All the evidence you need, at the bottom look at the shoot-out pics where these were rated #1 above Pirelli, Toyos and the rest of the tires.

Too bad they dont fit my car as it will be an 1" shorter

Have you owned a set of these tires? Seems like a pretty strong opinion for someone that is inexperienced with them. If you have had 5 sets of tires on your car already you are obviously well experienced in buying cheap tires, hence your strong opinion I guess.

I have these tires on my Renntech'd S600, wrapped around 20" HRE wheels (no, I am not on a budget). The tires are quiet and have excellent traction (far better than the Yokohama's that were on the S55 wheels that I had on the car) thus far. I have had them on my car for 5,000 miles and they still look like brand new. I am very pleased with them and chose them based on the REAL experience that the tire shop and other customers encountered.

I would suggest that you provide input on things you actually have experience with as opposed to spouting off with strong opinions about somebody trying to "sell" something and how they should not come back "crying" in the future. No need for that type of behavior when Gondon did nothing but ask a question.

+1

I have a set of Vredestein tires on my S600 and these are by far the best tires I've had on the S-Class. They are also great looking.

Gondon - I will post pictures for you after work if you're interested?

i also have the vredestein seesantas on my car(S550 w/ 20" S65 AMG rims).....i have 5000 miles so far and no problems. I bought them from a shop in california who listed them on ebay and they were by far the least expensive tires i looked at. They are quiet....no "wowing" yet. They grip fine, but i dont push them. Best bang for the buck on my land yacht and im satisfied. I expect them to last fewer miles due to the softer compund, but like i said i dont drive too hard anymore. I save that for my other car.

I dont like Michelins or Conti's.....my other choice was Bridgestone but they were much more expensive.
