Aftermarket HID
Hi All,
What color aftermarket HID should I get on my 2004 S430? I have hallogen projectors now. I see some have 6000K and others recommend 4300K.
What do you think?

Back when I was a teen I thought bluer the better. But now having experience from 7500K, 6000K, 5300K, and 4300K, I would recommend 4300K or 5300K for oem look and best output which I think you're looking for. Even 6000K was too blue for me.

I'm trying to avoid the very blue look... I think I outgrew that when I used to have a 97 Honda Accord, slammed. Does the 4300K have that slight purple'ish tone?

No purple at all just blue when ignited and 30 sec to 1 min later it becomes bright white. Since I have 4300K in my 300zx with factory projectors you can see some blue at some angles. I like them alot. 5300K in our c230 with reflector housing and it's also very white with a hint of blue. 5300K is the max I'd go.

Does anyone know what Temp are the Purple/white'ish HIDs?
i have a beige/gold 430, so the blues would looks weird on that color car.
From what ive seen on youtube - 6000k's are the purple/whiteish ones -
8000k are blue
i have 8000k on my CBR 929RR and its blue/white more blue than white.

55watt provides about 40% more light output, give us a call if you would like to order an error free kit.
$120 for the 35watt kit, and $145 for the 55watt kit.

If you're speaking of the bluish/purple "sparkle" you see when a car is coming towards you, the 4300 & 5300 will give that effect. Any higher than 5300 and the entire light output is affected by too much color. Over 5300 and you start to quickly lose quality light output and you'll look like a 90's Honda with blue bulbs.
I had aftermarket HID in my old 98 BMW 740 and went with 6000 to start with. Looked cheesy, so I changed them to 4300, which is what BMW offered from the factory and I was extremely pleased with the output and color (or lack thereof.)
People mistake HID's as being blue, when it reality they are just such a pure white, they look blue compared to other halogen lights. Also, they tend to have a halo effect around them when seen from oncoming traffic that looks blue/purple. The higher temperature you go, the more of that you lose.

the 55 watt HID have their downfalls...yes while they do add 20-35% more light output they do put more strain on the oem harness...they are not nearly as effecient as the 35W and thus reduce the longevity of the system...why else do you think the OEM on all vehicles is still 35w not 55w...

its the start up amperage is what damages the oem harness...but its more in the efficiency of the 55watt HID where it lacks in comparison to the 35w...

35W vs 55W HID Kits
XenonDepot only sells 35W HID kits for several reasons. 55W HID kits do produce slightly more light (approximately 15%-20%) than a 35W HID Kit. This increased light output usually results in a less even light spread and additional glare. 55W ballasts are not as efficient as 35W ballasts that we sell meaning that 55W ballast longevity will be compromised. Many merchants that sell 55W HID claim that 55W is a superior technology. However, there is a reason that all cars that come with HID lights from the factory still use 35W technology and not 55W technology.
