I think MB could have done more with the rear center console area. Looks too plain and small IMO. But other than that the rear seat is definitely taken to a different level with the 4-seating package on the W220 (and W221).

wow, seems like these cars could use some dynamatt or similar material.

How bad is it to remove the interior?

The Carpet has a very thick layer of foam under it. Dynamat will not help any except make a huge tar mess. Interior removal is not too bad if you know how to remove it.

I am convinced that you could take a John Deere riding lawn mower, turn it into a Bentley Continental GT, and it would be far superior than the one's that roll out of the Crewe Factory!

I use a tar-less dampner product that did a nice job on my mustang. I might have to look into doing that on the S.

with all this talk of seat reclining and such, I decided to hop in back and see how it felt back there.

But I have some questions.

1. the seatback is not supposed to move at all, just the bottom, right?

2. when I extend the seat bottom all the way out, there is a noticeable gap between the seatback and the bottom. I mean, you could get a few fingers in there.

This does not seem normal to me. Is there some covering that is supposed to go there?

thanks.

You are right. The seat back does not move just the bottom. It sort of gives one the impression that the back is moving when it really isn't.

You are right again, there is a significant gap between the seat back and bottom when it is fully extended. Seems to me that Mercedes could have done a much better job in the design of this. There is actually enough room where one could lose a wallet back there. They could easily have put in some type of flexible material that would expand to cover to open area.

ok, at least my car isn't broken.

But I agree completely. There needs to be a flexible piece that covers this because it was a shockingly big gap. Maybe some velcro and a piece of fabric can fix this.

Wow. You really know how to take on a project!

I had the reclining back seats in my S and didn't really find that they made that much of a difference. My kids liked them, but I sat back there for a couple of long trips and ended up keeping them upright most of the time. I'm pretty tall and preferred having the additional legroom.

well when i bought my car it didnt have the rear seat at all ( bottom or back) so i got a really good deal on rear adjustable seats, 200 for both seats center flipdown and adjustable headrests, but i never could figure out how to install them so i just put them in the garage and let them sit and now i got the motivation to do it and you get the self satisfaction that you did that
