Can't say I'd agree with them on getting the S280 though. It's OK if you want something to start a chauffeur business to the airport but it is very gutless! The thing I liked about driving the W220 S500 was knowing that under the bonnet you could get past pretty much anything on the A roads to and from home.
Looking at the video it appeared as though the W220 was only a SWB (IIRC it was only available in SWB format in the UK) whereas the W220 S600 was only available in LWB format. I don't know whether you can get a SWB W221 S600...either way I'm surprised Mr Benedict didn't point out the lack of space in the back of the W220. Most S Classes in the UK were SWB and in the back it was no different to an E Class. My father's was a LWB and the difference was very noticeable in the back seats.

I still own a 1995 S500 with 114k miles on it, I have not had to put a dime into it except for the AC about 5 years ago was a $3000 repair but other than that it's still in great shape.
I have owned it since 2000, got it with 70k miles and it's still an awesome car. The double pane glass makes it look like the windows are bullet proof.
I would say that the road noise is acually less than my prior 03 S500 or my Current S600.
