Cool

I would not do it myself. You want to have it good looking, and if you don't have experience in painting it won't look good. AND never treat your chrome plated grille with sandpaper ;-((.
As far as I recall the paint shop has to treat the chrome plated parts with some chemicals make the paint stick permanently.

I've never had a grille done before, but you might look into powder coating. It's very durable, and there are all types of finishes and colors. It's also quick and fairly inexpensive.

A high powered etch primer would be the way to go, if you sand it the marks will grin through

my body shop sanded down my grill then used a flex agent and primer to prep the grill, then painted the same color as the rest of the car. It came out real good.

dude if you paint it, make sure you buy a degreaser and spray the **** out of the grill so paint will stick.. Spay About arm length from the grill.. too close will get over spray and dripp - thats a no no..
1-Degrease - clean
2-Spray arm length - let it dust on the grill so theres no over spray
3-1st coat do a light dust on it, let dry or get hair blower on it
4-2nd coat finish it off - arm length spray

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
This

has worked great for me on some cars.If you have never painted before practice on a junk yard grill you pick up for 5 bucks,a bent up piece of crap is fine since you are only using it for the lesson.Duplicolor primer and paint and a good wet sanding and clear coat will look great.

That flat black grill shown above looks sharp.

NO SAND PAPER - the Degreaser will replace the job of sandpaper cause it will clean with no oils..so paint will stick with the correct method of spraying. sandpaper will just messup with whole chrome smooth finish and will get a very ruff/dull surface... use the entire can of degreaser and clean it well before spraying.
