I used this product this past weekend to do an oil change on my 01 S500, I can't stand my local dealership they mess up more things with the car when I bring it to them than I had wrong with it when I brought it to them.

The product is a breeze to use, bought the fuel filter from the dealer, oil from Walmart, Mobile 1 0W40, took the oil fill cap off, loosened the filter, removed the dipstick, connected two hoses together, put one end down the dipstick and connected the other end to the unit and pump it about a dozen times, saw the oil start coming down the hose and filling the container, after about 10-15 minutes it starting sucking air and was filled up to the line indicating 8.5 quarts, not exactly to the line, but very close. Removed the hose, poured the old oil out into plastic containers, filled the car with 8.5 quarts, replaced the filter, started the car, rechecked the oil level via the dipstick and was ok, took the oil to walmart to be recycled and done.

Super easy job, and I know at least it was done right with no leaks.

Ha ha, I bought my BMW from your local dealer. Sales guy was great, but I didn't have very much confidence in the service dept.

Oil Change

Stephen,

Thanks for the post. Just what I was looking for. What model MityVac did you buy, where and how much? Their website isn't very helpful in selecting the right one.

Thanks in advance.

FYI, they say to use the smaller of the two tubes in your dipstick, I used the larger and it was fine, smaller would take too long. Just my 2 cents.

Hey StephenK.. I agree with you on that big time!! I also bought the same model from Amazon and used it for the first time a few months ago on my
E-class. It is much cleaner and easier to change the oil using this method.
Can you also reset the FSS computer on your S500? It is somewhat easy to reset it on the E-Class (W210).
I have recently considered a 2005 S500 to purchased...but from reading the airmatic system and it's potential problems has scared me away from that generation. What has your experience been with your year?

Wish i knew how to reset the FSS computer, the best offer i had was by a local shop that says they have the computer the dealers use and that they could reset it, so far i have not pursued that option.

I have never had a problem since i purchased my 01 S500 with the airmatic system.

See if your manual has instructions.

The instructions are in the E-class manual..but what it doesn't tell you is the key in doing it correctly. All doors must be shut when doing the procedures.
Otherwise, the computer will not reset. Somtimes you will have to do it twice or so for it to reset. I have always changed my own oil and reset my FSS on my own...thus save quite few $$$.
See if the instructions are in your book and let us know.

That's not the case on the E-class... it is much more involved to reset it.
Not sure how it is done on the S-class w220.

He didnt ask about the E-class, he asked about the S-class. You hold R on the service interval screen.
