missing car
My friend placed a deposit on a 2003 CLK 320 on 10/25/02 at Silver Star Mercedes Benz with salesman, Owen Taback, Long Island City, NY.
He called the dealership on or about Jan 15th ,2003, to find out the status of car.
He was told by Owen "it vanished from the radar"
The sales manager reiterated this claim.
The salesman then offered to sell my friend a used SL500 for $61.900
He declined the offer.
Can someone give me an explanation for the vanished vehicle?

Yea they sold the car to some else! We are talking car salesman here, or did u think u were talking to a man of the cloth. He never had a car as far as they were concerned unless they could not find some one to pay a higher price or finance or pay through the nose for other worthless options, then they might have sold him the car. Vanished thats a new one, maybe they should look in the Bermuda Triangle! Good luck

like apricotscrub said.. get in their face.. show them you aren't playing around.. get them to even maybe get you a CLK500 or something! If you placed a deposit.. and they sold the car to someone else..
well.. in houston, if that happened to me, they would get a very very nasty kick to the leg.. mainly because i'm underage to do anything legally.. but my dad can!

There is nothing we can do about it.
It is not a real contract we sign at the dealership. Just a sheet of paper for the intention to purchase a car.
Dealers do this all the time. They have lawyers working for them too. They know they can get away with it.

I'm not so sure.....
A sheet of paper could be just as good as any contract. I would think a judge would be a bit more sympathetic to someone who actually put money down on a car then a dealership that sells it from underneath him.
Did it have the vin number on it? I'd speak to the general manager of the dealership if the sales guy can't provide a logical answer. Cars just don't disappear.

Owen? Is that really you out there? Be nice to us. After all if it weren't for us, you would have nobody to sell cars too.
