Door Closing Issue

Two months ago the soft-close on the driver’s door stopped working on my 2004 S600, but the door shut fine with only slight extra effort, all other doors worked fine. Two weeks ago I brought it in for it's 20,000 service and to get the door fixed. When I got the car back the door worked just as it should, then the next morning it would not shut unless you slammed it hard, anything less left it latched but not closed. Basically, the door sometimes soft-closes and sometimes doesn't, only WORSE than before I brought it in to get fixed. Also, now the door handles (inside & out) sometimes require somewhat more pressure to pull, in order to open the door. I took it back to the dealer who said they were experiencing the same problem, and had no idea but it could be that the hinges were bent or the car had been wrecked...HUH?!?!?!? Car has never even been touched-up let alone damaged/wrecked. They are thinking they might order a new door handle, but I doubt that is covered under warranty and they aren't saying it WILL fix the issue. Anyone have a clue what this issue might "ACTUALLY" be so that I can clue them in?

It sounds as if some pneumatic leads to and from the PSE pump (or perhaps those within a door) may have been switched - almost as if the soft close feature is resisting closing, and perhaps even resisting opening. I have never heard of this problem before, but I can't make sense of anything else.

Sounds like a bad PSE pump from the beginning.Very common issue on these cars. mine failed at 47K and I had it replaced under warranty.

Usually the drivers door will stop working and all of the other doors will work.

they more than likely just pulled the fuse and reset it instead of replacing the pump which is a no no for a dealer.

Judging by the advice given, Id rush to find a more competent dealer or wit till the one you are using now gets back from Rehab.

When I examined the repair order more closely. The stated they found the "micro switch" to be faulty and they replaced the door latch lock assy. but I do not see where they replaced the PSE pump. This is my "second" dealer to TRY and get competent service from in the area Crazy!!!

Then I repeat my earlier speculation; they may have revered the pneumatic leads on the driver's door latch when they replaced it..

I called the service advisor and told him the situation was not acceptable and told him it appeared the pump had not been changed. Since I have the Mercedes 100K extended warranty I just told him to order one are replace it. Will take it in Thursday. Guess I need to make sure they check the leads too. Will report back what happens. Thanks for the info!

Picked it up today (sorta) Service Advisor said the Tech couldn't replicate the issue, so they couldn't authorize a warranty replacement of the pump. Wasn't a good scene at that moment. Ultimately, the service advisor had the tech adjust the latch on the pillar and now it works like a charm. Why the Tech couldn't have done the first time, let alone the second, and finally the third, but ONLY after I clouded up and had to rain all over the poor advisor, I will NEVER know. That being said, drove away, ran an errand, restarted the car, check engine light came on and car went into limp mode GOOD GRIEF, and they JUST replace the ECM two weeks ago as the Check engine light would come on after the check the fuel cap light came on, both would go off after a few restarts but NEVER did it go into "limp" mode.
