s65 tachometer??

my cousin at dealer can get me a new s65 tachometer for realitively free. from the 03-06 models.

Will this direct fit into my car and will it just need to be reprogrammed for the old miles??

If it does i would open the casing and black out the biturbo amg lettering.

any reason why you want the S65 tach?

If you black out the amg/ bi turbo thing, all you get is a tach without a redline.

If you are looking to get the 220mph speedo, I think thats a bit ricey since you car doesn't have a prayer of doing over 180mph.

Nick- the cluster MUST be new, 00000 miles. I can code it for you.

Can you set me up with one also?

Electronic governing wont even let it get anywhere near that even, 130ish tops.. if that. Then where? on the turnpike? yeah right.

I got my tank to 107ish for about three minutes once and I got seasick.

I want it because its free first of all. second its says 220 on it which look pretty cool.

My car has the limiter removed ive got it up to 167 so far. I dont think 180 should be a problem with my mods and the dyno tune this sat.

Anyways i might have TVT do some engine boring for me next month up to 5.7 or 6.0 displacement for not that much.

Sorry, you are not getting quality machine work and new pistons for "not that much".

That sort of upgrade costs about $15-$20k if done by renntech or brabus (if not more). Even if TVT does it for half of that, you are using 1/4 to 1/3 of the value of your car to increase hp marginally.

The 220 MPH speedometer is not linear. 80 MPH is at 12 o'clock and the spacing is more compressed above 100 MPH. Is anyone sure this is handled by the speedometer and not the cluster or the ECU?

I have a feeling the electronics in the cluster interpret the speed from the VSS or wheel speed sensors and then display the correct speed for that type of cluster.

yea your right that brabus and renntech completely overkill for 15k-20k. thats crazy.

there are quality shops out there that bore engines more then renntech or brabus do and for a 1/4 of the price. to bring the 5.0 to a 6.0 with upgraded internals/titanium parts and new pistons could cost roughly 5-6grand. with that you get over 100hp and the engine remains NA. im not really that much of a fan of superchargers.

Again the tachometer is Free so why not install it.

Is your cousin stealing the S65 cluster from the dealership or what? Last I checked they were about $2500 and the inventory is limited/strictly controlled by Mercedes..

1. they don't make titanium pistons
2. why would replace your rods?
3. I do not believe that a reputable shop will provide you with high quality forged pistons, with pins, machine work, assembly, and engine removal/replacement for $3.5k to $5k. I can almost guarantee it will be double that.
4. To go from 5.0 liters to 6.0 liters, you will need to resleeve the block, which further increases the expense (talking bore only. If you want to increase the stroke as well, you then need a new crank and new rods). Bottom line, either one will add thousands to the price.

5. I strongly doubt that you will gain 100bhp from a 1 liter increase in engine displacement. Your engine currently makes 60bhp per liter. Aside from some unshrouding of the valves, there will really be no additional engine efficiency. Furthermore, by using larger bores, you will have heavier pistons, which will increase reciprocating weight, which is a drag on power.

brabus 5.8 upgrade nets 400hp to a stock s500.

and your right with the price i was way off.. Talked to the guys and it will cost between 8-9grand for a completey rebuild of the enigne. and yes it will need to be sleeved but thats not a problem. would take about a month of down time.

looking just to get the heads taken care of now along with aggressive schrick camshafts and thats were the mods will stop until the spring with i pick up the vette.

That upgrade involves a new block, bored and stroked, new crank, pistons, heads and cams. Plus electronics. What do you think that would cost? It's loony to consider putting significant money into S500 engine mods, which will only reduce any residual resale value, when an upgrade to an S55 or S65 can be had for less. Don't forget that even a 2001 N/A S55 had brake, suspension and transmission mods to go along with the 354 HP engine. At 400 HP you'd be naive to expect the car (and you) to stay in one piece without brake, suspension and powertrain mods as well.

But it's your car so enjoy yourself.
