i was wondering if it possible to shave wheel offset and how dangerous it could be to drive on shaved wheels

it is possible. i know this 'cause my set of MAE's were 26mm more aggressive than i thought (the seller screwed up when posting offsets - they're actually ET-13, not ET13!) and the wheel shop is shaving them down 15mm for me. it depends on the pad design and depth, so not all wheels can be shaved very far. most shops will only do 3-5mm for fear of liability down the road.

with all the risks involved, perhaps fender modifications would be an easier route? i can't mod my fenders anymore (they're already rolled and pulled to within an inch of their respective lives) without causing weird deformities, which is why i went down the path of shaving instead of modding the fender.

anyway, whichever way you decide, good luck!

EDIT: oh yeah, just to clarify -- these wheels aren't going on a mercedes of any sort. wouldn't it be cool if a w220 could take something sized 18x11.5 ET2 with just a fender roll and pull?

I guess anything is possible. Question should be "Is it practical?".

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Buy the correct

rims.A hubcentric spacer is fine if you need to push a rim out, shaving material to move it in?Do you really want to see a tire and rim combo rolling past you when they let go? 25mm is about an inch,so if you need to move the rims in that much to make them fit the wheel wells take a look at the rim and you decide if it is safe

Doesn't sound like a good idea. I had to remove a slight (1-2mm) amount of material from the inside of my wheel spokes to have proper caliper clearance in the rear (4" lips and w220's don't easily go together), but removing that kind of material from the wheels seems over the top. That's JMHO.

Good luck.

On the rears I am running a 20X11in wheel with a 5 inch lip. I had to do all the above. Be sure to do proper research when shaving wheels. I actually had mine machined, to keep the proper balance. (A problem you can have if not done properly) Lastly, I had an 1/8inch shaved off the caliper itself, then I had them powder coated. (That was a little extreme, but worth it when you see how deep the lip is) I have taken corners at well over 90mph with no rub no flex, and no excessive heat from the rim being so close to the caliper.

so i guess it also depends on wheel brand, if its good quality so it could be shaved with no problem, because i just need mine shaved about 5 mm max so it wont rub front arcs

Yeah and be sure to contact the makers of the wheel, not the seller. They are the only ones who know the true strength of the wheel and how much material can be safely removed. Here are some pics

To be honest with you I can't tell you, I know its an 1/8 inch off the caliper itself and close to a 1/4 inch off the rim. U can only put about 3 peices paper between them. lol

( O yeah when two objects pass by each other that close and that fast they "can" generate heat even if they don't touch, so make sure whomever does your work makes sure both surfaces are smooth so air can flow through)

Yes, I do. MB does make 2 types of rear calipers for the W220 one has a smaller piston reserve (which I shaved down). You can order this part and the rim will fit closer, But I didn't have any issues with mine, and I did this in June of 2008. I drive hard and haven't had any issues.
