Guys with deleted resonators

So for those of you that have had this done, I have two questions:

1. Does anybody have their stock resonators laying around that they want to sell/donate?

2. Is there room on the exhaust to fit another set of resonators?

Also, for those curious WTF im doing, Im going to add extra sound deadening under the hood liner, and try to quiet the exhaust with an extra resonator.

Thanks

Is your stock exhaust too loud for you?

so your exhaust is completley stock and your gonna add more restrictions to your exhaust?
ok is it too loud for you inside the cabin? or outside the car? for having a Cobra your a little extreme for quiet in a MB.

in short, yes. I don't care if I lose 10bhp in exhaust restriction. In the year I've owned the car, I can count how many times I've gone WOT on one hand.

Its a bit too noisy inside the cabin for my tastes. Since I think its more engine noise than exhaust noise, Im going to try lining the hood with sound deadener. The reason for this, is that I noticed the car was a good bit quieter with 2-4" of snow on the hood.

The cars I own represent two extremes. The cobra has shorty headers, and offroad(no cats) h pipe, and dumped mufflers. it will make your ears bleed its so loud. The benz is very quiet, but I'd like to examine the other extreme of quietness in this vehicle.

Plus I have sound deadener lying around from use in the Cobra, so I might as well give it a shot.

Good thing you have the S500 because the S430 is even louder , and I know what you mean , but here is something you might find odd , but since i deleted my resonator my car feels much smoother with a rumble you can only hear from the outside . It feels much similar to the 04 Lexus GS430 i had .

Owning a Lexus before you'll notice it right away , but i simply love the S CLASS . (engine noise and in fact all S430'S including my friend's 05 S430 witch is much less smoother than my 03 S500 he had no ideat till he drove y car )

Well, I have driven both S430 and S500 as well as owned E430. Did not notice much difference in engine sound. Currently, I have Magnaflow duals in the back, so I hear exhaust sound but not a sound from engine compartment even I had with stock mufflers. If you had K&N filters, there is a sound difference for swirling air coming in from the in take.

Comparison to Audi A8L with 4.2, Phaeton with 4.2L, Lexus with 4.3L, by all means MB is the quitest among all in engine sound. I never considered 4.3L as a small engine knowing Landcruiser has 4.5 & 4.7, Dodge and Ford SUV has 4.6 & 4.7 motors on their monsterous SUVs.

Dont you listen to music when you drive? That will cancel out the noise you hear...

I can imagine Oliver driving listening to Beet's 9th Symphony.

(tires not installed at this point, hence one is backwards)

Heres an idea of the sound. Keep in mind this was made about 5 years and 100rwhp ago.

I do, but since I do listen to some classical opera, there are many quiet parts where you can hear noises the car makes.

simply buy a jap lexus,it is a knockoff of MB anyway.im not hacking, juststating a fact.im not sure how much quieter an additional resonator is going to "silence" the exhaust decible.it is designed to null specific aspects of combustion, the mufflers are what put the "hush" on exiting exhaust.take a chop saw and cut the rear section off a brand new 430.then take whatever exhaust components you need and have a gas station install them on the benz for a 12 pack of bud light.nothing personal, but i hate! jap crap.

there is nothing crappy about a lexus...nothing.

If they had slightly more favorable styling, there is no question that I would own an LS.

this is not an attack on your style or choice.but you said it perfectly, they cant come up with a beautiful car on their own.they copy other leaders in the industry and hope to get a share of the market that is more concerned with cost/reliability than enginering and exotic ownership.to each their own.our accountant owns one of the new lexus coups and wrote a check for 65k to own it,when he did our taxes this year he sat in our old 2003 S500 which is still immaculate and swore someday he would get one.

ok, to update everyone, I pulled off the hood liner yesterday, and let me tell you, it is thin and crappy. I really expected better.

The hoods construction leaves quite a lot of area to put sound deadening material on, which I did. One layer over basically the whole thing, and then reinstalled the liner, which still fit perfectly. Although I have not driven the car yet, I have a feeling that it may help to reduce engine noise.

no one probably cares, but I thought I'd let you guys know anyway.

No worries man. I'm sure we would all like to know how well that works to quiet an already quiet car. Just be sure to remove that stuff before long trips. May get a little hot under the hood!

I'm not too concerned about heat. Its rated for more than 300 degrees, and since its underneath the stock hood liner, there is essentially no chance of fire. Also, engine bay temps according to thermometer on the airbox are about 130 degrees or so, so I don't think it will be a problem.

thanks for the post.
