Question Tire Question.....Load rating????

I’m getting ready to buy some tires for my 220 S65 and had a question on load rating. The stock tires come with 100Y rear and a 98Y front load rating. I’m trying to find a tire that’s reasonably priced, has a decent tread wear rating and has a sufficient load rating for the 220....I’ve been going through rear PS2’s every 4-5k miles at 1k a set.

So, my first choice is the Michelin PS All Season Plus- it’s a 500 tread wear rating, has good reviews and is reasonably priced.......and, I'm willing to sacrifice a little traction for longevity. The problem is it has a 96Y load rating. According to tire rack that’s 1,565 lbs per tire which = 6,260lbs. My car is 5,020lbs with me in it- which means I’ve got 1,240 lbs left for passengers, luggage, etc....so is it safe to assume the 96Y’s are ok? Am I missing something? Any input is appreciated.

You could try the Goodyear F1 D3; it has a 101Y load rating, 1764 for the front, and 1819 for the rear in the sizes I believe you would need. Both the Pilot Sport AS and the Goodyear F1s are noisier than the tires I use (Michelin MVV4 Primacy) on my W220 (a 4Matic), but if you can accept the noise, it may be a good choice.

The MVV4 Primacy has a 60K tread wear warranty, if you wanted to consider those.

Thanks SKylaw- I actually ordered the PS A/S Plus tires for it yesterday. My local Discount Tire is giving me a 30day free trial period. If I don't like them, they'll pull them off and credit me for a diffferent set. I'l let you know how it turns out.
