DIY brake job for 04' 600?

Been calling the stealerships...for all four rotors and pads about $1500....i checked on the parts alone and for sensors, pads and rotors about $670...the parts guy told me that I can't change the brakes myself because they have to be electronically released (i think that's bs)...any thought on doing it myself? I grew up around hot rods and wrenched for several years so I couldn't see it being too difficult?

oh yea..called up motor werks of houston...some guy named larry told me originally that it would be $526 for the fronts then $440 for the backs...i told him up front i needed pads and rotors...he said he would call me back and that's when he quoted me the price...i said ok when can i bring it in..."oh, the fronts are on backorder...i have to see when i can get them." I called several mb dealers and they all have the fronts in stock. I called back and told him I would bring all the parts how much was labor...he said $465 total...i said wait...you said before it was $966 total...he said that didn't include rotors...i said "I told you I needed them from the very start and you even called back and said they were on back order." So I guess they wanted $966 for just brake pads and sensors...at the dealership the prices for pads and sensors for all four wheels was $222...guess motor werks wanted $744 for labor to replace just pads and sensors. Nothing he told me added up…beware when calling this place if you’re in Houston.

why is it impossible to find good, reasonable work in this business?

I will do work on just about anything on my cars except brakes. It's just a pain in my *** to mess around with the fluids. You could always get a quote from a notable mercedes shop that isn't a dealer and see how different it is.

I just did my brakes and it was simple. Nothing needs to be disconnected or re-set. Just take the caliper off, remove the caliper bracket, remove and replace the rotor, compress the caliper pistions, install the new pads and put it back together. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this an easy 3. Good luck and let me know if you need any more information.

Yeah the dealership people are full of crap and don't know what the **** they are talking about... The electronic release of brakes does not apply to the W220.. it's for cars that have Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC).. such as the W211.. you need SDS to disengage the brakes.

Brakes on a 600 are as easy as pie.

No fluids involved in a brake job.

I got to do my brakes on my 600 and I'm planning to do it at the dealership... but I'm having them install the S55 brakes. They are going to charge me $4500-5000 to do fronts and rears.

I get a ton of brake dust from my stock 600 brakes.... anyone know of a way to prevent my wheels from turning black every week?

Oxygen- I'm assuming the same applies on the 220 65?? BTW, what is "SDS?"

I just dropped my car off at the stealership......I'll be curious to see what they quote me for the brakes. My SA tried to tell me that the front rotors we're "about 1,100 a piece"......I quickly corrected him and said "no, they're about 8 and change"......then he quickly told me he'd have to "double check"
