2000 Mercedes Benz S500 Designo
Annoying
So I took it to the dealer today... heres what happened:
UPDATE:
URGH!!!!!! I hate this dealer. Period. And all mercedes service. I went to pick up my car today and TOLD THEM I was running late. Got there 7 Minutes after closing and EVERYONE was gone but some guy who spoke german and snuk me my key from behind the desk.
Regardless, they broke stuff:
-auto headlights no longer work
-I/C displays message thats sunroof is open when its closed
-I/C error about headlamps
-Service A mileage was not set
-They broke the old dimmer button so it now will not push into place
UGH theyre getting a nasty phone call tomorrow
At 10:00 AM they took my key and drove the car back to determine if it was going to be accepted into the 10 year warranty extension on the cluster. I waited for more than 2 hours until the service rep came out and told me they had installed the cluster and were programming it. About 15 minutes later the service head came out and told me there was a change of plans. Upon entering the odometer reading (thought it was stored in the SAM), they entered the reading in Miles instead of KM, messing up the reading. Ex: 41,000 miles was put in as 40k KM and the reading came out to 25K or something Miles. Since odometer tampering is illegal, they couldnt let me leave with 15k miles less. They also dont have the authority to change it now that its programmed. SO, either my car or the I/C is being shipped to Ft Worth to be reprogrammed and Ill have the car in 2ish days. ANNOYING. Even more so when they told me due to my age they could not loan me a car, have to be over 21. AH! IF THE MORONS KNEW THE GERMAN CAR USED A METRIC PROGRAMMING SYSTEM!!! Oh well.... itll be a week, just thought Id share..

They fixed everything except for the sunroof, one of the rods is malfunctioning and causing the sunroof to not seat properly.... $2428.00, I passed. Dont ever let the dealer give you a complimentary wash. Just swirled the hell out of my recently polished finish

name any other automobile that you could walk into a service department 10 years and three owners after being first sold and have a factory authorized $3 thousand dollar cluster installed for free.during install errors were made and they give you a loaner?and they did make all the errors correct.what are the chances of you buying a new MB in the future?because it is the reasoning behind the factory and all the techs honoring a warranty on a "10" year old car.i think you are flogging the dealer unjustly!

I disagree. We are the first owners and paid over 100k for this car so yes, an factory replacement of an $1800 instrument cluster is expected when said product in my vehicle prevented me from reading the whole cluster. There shouldnt be any errors made regardless and who says were not in the market for another MB? I might not be for a few years but my parents might be. Bottom line is those mistakes shouldnt have been made, as posted by someone else on benzworld, "Its nice to have a working I/C again... funny thing to say on a 100k car."

When did a 2000 S500 sell for more than $100K? Maybe I don't know a lot about what they sold for back then, but the Designo edition, fully loaded with every available option was less than 100k.

But your forgetting that 2000 was the big year they came out and the car was bought in '99 so not only was there T,T&L but there was shipping from Germany and whatever markup the dealer chose to add on. The cars sticker price before the dealer handled it was $98k

ok so i understand that you want to be treated as a $100k client and you absolutely deserve it,i simply feel for the techs/service departments that are required to maintain reliability,function and performance in our "rediculously" loaded cars.i love every luxury option that MB offers but understand the complexity of keeping it perfect.
