What I was trying to say, was that not all AMG *wheels* are staggered (ie: AMG wheels for Sport packages). I recognize the OP was trying to determine if he had a genuine S55. The OP had a plethora of issues which most novice MB owners would recognize as a base S500, with AMG wheels and improper badging. We all know there are those who swap out wheels (whether or not it is correct is a different story).

2005 S500 4MATIC
My 05 S500 4Matic has the sport package. All 4 wheels are genuine AMG 5 spoke, but they are not staggered. It's amazing to me how great the staggered wheels look on the S55. Just a few centimeters extra wheel/tire width in the rear makes a huge difference in appearance (to me). I have read that if you install the staggered wheels on a 4Matic you will damage the transmission.
Funny thing about re-badging that kind of car. The only person who would notice the badge would also question it's authenticity.

WTF?
you guys surely realize you're debating a THREE YEAR OLD POST???
d'oh

regarding staggered - you can run it no prob - as long as the rolling diameters are within range
now, can we puhleeeeeze not dig up hugely stale posts??? I know this place is a total snorefest, but it's sorta annoying 8-)

2000 S500/2001 S55 (sold)/2005 S55 AMG
Also, always look for upgraded brakes, thats an easy tell. I see AMG clones alot, and the easiest way to tell is just look for the brakes. If its got brakes, chances are its real, but even then, people switch the brake kits too. Also, the 220 S class never got a star grill, thats some aftermarket stuff. Yuck..
Not true. I have a 01 s55 & it does not have the large brakes like the 03 & up modules, or the kompressor engine. In fact I can't tell the difference between my brakes & my friends s430. There may be one, but it's not as noticeable as the 03 & up modules.
The big star grill means nothing. I also have the big star grill which I installed myself & it's an s55.
I had a guy once try & tell me that my car was not an S55 because it didn't have the big brakes. I just laughed it off because if you know anything about s55's, you would know prior to 03, they didn't have the large brakes like that fool thought.
