About to buy a 99 S320 advice

I have been offered a 1999 70,000 mile S320 here in the UK.

Are there any known issues with these cars? Anything I should be looking for?

When are the major services and roughly what cost?

What MPG do people get from the car?

What toys are standard?

Don't know a deal about the car yet other than it is Obsidian (sp?) black and has command.

It will replace my 740 and be the everyday runaround.

Any advice and views on this car appreciated.

Cheers

Paul

YOu might have better luck posting in the W140 forum. That's where you'll find all the experts on your car.

From what I recall, the 99 was the last of the W140 series and most major bugs from that platform has been solved.

ahhhhh....
S320 is not sold here in the U.S.

Ok..run a search on 2000 S430. You'll find a list of all the problems the early models had. I assume the S320 would have the same problems since they are the same platform...just different engines.

Personally, the V6 is not strong enough to power the s-class. You need at least a V8 of the S430.

Actually the V6 is good power. I got a '99 S320L (W220) fully loaded. Very nice handling...Good ride comfort...And from 40KMH it can practtically give you enough power to beat any other V6's (GS300, ES300, Maxima, Mustang.)

Here are some options I got...
Command, rear blind, heated/ventilated seats, Massage seats in front, Electric front and back seats, Parktronic, folding side mirros, xenon, wood wheel and shift lever, hydraulic trunk, jet wash for lights, audio system, sunroof, Heated rear seats, in seat armrest phone linked to command and the microphones and speakers.

What im missing...
I got connections to a CD player but not the changer however getting one soon. TV tuner. and side window blinds. Other than that I got everything on the list

Trust me you need those here in winter. Now the weather is warmish...but at night the temp drops and its not like the London cold. It's dry and it gets straight to your bones, real cold...we got some canadians here who complain about it alot. But as soon as I turn it on in the car it would take 15mins for me to feel comfortabel again :p

We had an S320 , was a nice car before it got rammed (see thread my s600 vs lexus..half way through) , ill have to say it had alot of power , never flet underpowered, but then again thats always a subkective thing, coming from a 740 you might have issues with it but you admore the better fuel economy in retur, i dont thinl itll outgun a maxima (my daily driver hehe) but like i said it didnt feel weak, ours had just under 50K on the clock whenwe lost it so i wouldnt know about problems
