You may in fact have a gearing problem, but first, try the reset procedure at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post3682080. Use the first reset for the sunroof - Note that this is a different procedure from the global synchronization feature of auto-opening that is described later.

had the same problem like yours. and just repaired mine. you dont need a new motor since it's still running... seems like you have damaged teeth on the cable on one side of the sunroof. parts are cheap.. around 45/each. but it's a good idea to replace both... you might need the new lifting arm if the yellow sleeves are broken. labor is expensive to replace them... some shops will say you need to remove the whole roof headliner to get to them.. but you dont. but if you can remove the motor you can probable replace the cables yourself too..you can access the cables by removing the sliding headliner, then the glass roof. in order to pull out the cables, you need to loosed the sunroof motor so it's not engage with the cables... hope this help..

you are only looking at the small part of the cables thru that motor gear hole..

if you have difficulty remove the glassroof, it's probably better to take it to the shop to have them replace the cables for you.
